ANTIOCH, Calif. — Police are searching for a suspect or suspects after a woman’s body was found burning Monday morning on a trail in Antioch, California, officials say.
According to a news release from the Antioch Police Department, on Monday just after 5:30 a.m., a resident called about a small fire on a trail called City Paved Trail between Gentrytown Drive and Contra Loma Boulevard.
KRON reported that Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded and found a human body on fire. They called APD for assistance and worked to put out the fire.
Multiple officers arrived at the scene along with the Contra Contra Fire Protection District’s arson investigators. APD Investigation Bureau’s crime scene investigators and violent crimes and special operations units also are assisting with the investigation.
The body was determined to belong to a woman. Her identity is unknown and her age and race have not yet been released, according to APD.
APD also confirmed she died at the scene from her injuries.
No information has been released about a suspect or suspects involved being that they left the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival, according to APD.
The investigation is ongoing as police continue to interview witnesses and residents. Investigators are also trying to identify the victim and identify a person of interest, according to KRON.
