ATLANTA — Zoo Atlanta is once again home to giant pandas after going without the animals since 2024.

Ping Ping and Fu Shuang arrived at their new home Sunday. The pair are being kept in a bio secure area of Zoo Atlanta’s new giant panda complex for about a month as they undergo a routine quarantine.

The pandas are expected to make their public debut in about four weeks.

Atlanta resident Zach Justice says he welcomes their return and what it could mean for relations between the United States and China.

“I think that it’s good to have good relationships between the United States and China, and if that means we get to see some pandas I’m all for it,” Justice said.

Resident Dale Keida also welcomed the pandas’ return.

“Anything that will help improve our relations with the two countries I think is a good step,” Keida said.

His wife, Angela Keida, said she believes more will be needed when it comes to diplomatic relations.

“I do think it’s going to take more though than pandas,” she said.

Justice says the new arrivals also give his family another reason to visit the zoo.

“I know we’re more likely to go to the zoo with our baby if there’s pandas there,” Justice said.

Ping Ping and Fu Shuang are set to make their public debut next month.
