Amazon hangs Help Wanted sign in Jackson Co

by Scott Trubey, AJC — Amazon plans to develop a new distribution hub in metro Atlanta that will ultimately employ about 1,000 full-time workers, the company said Thursday.

The new “fulfillment center” in near Jefferson, northeast of Atlanta, will be its second in Jackson County, which has seen growth in its warehousing and logistics sector amid the rebound from the Great Recession and growth since that time in both online shopping and overall consumer spending.

“Georgia has been a great place to do business for Amazon and we look forward to adding a new fulfillment center to better serve our customers in the region,” Akash Chauhan, Amazon vice president of North American operations, said in a news release.

The more than 850,000-square-foot facility will pack and ship orders from Amazon to consumers. Amazon said it already employs more than 1,500 full-time workers at its existing Georgia facilities.

“Not only is this fulfillment center important to the community and its citizens, but is a testament to our seamless logistics infrastructure which is so critically important to companies like Amazon,” Gov. Nathan Deal said in the release.
