It typically happens around Halloween: parents exercising their right to impose a “parent tax” on their children’s haul. Usually, the fee is just a couple of Snickers bars or some Sweet-Tarts, but occasionally the “cost” is higher and more unpredictable. While most kids reluctantly accept the tax, I can assure you—not all of them are happy about it!
