Ohio couple accused of holding woman against will in dog cage

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio man and woman are accused of kidnapping two women, keeping one in a dog cage, and raping and beating them, authorities said.

Jerrell Marquan Kyrees Smoot, 20, of Columbus, was charged with two counts of kidnapping and two counts of rape, according to Franklin County online booking records. Suriedia Florida-Hinds, 40, of Columbus, was charged with kidnapping, according to booking records.

Police were called to an apartment complex in the Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report of two women kidnapped, WBNS reported.

Authorities said one woman escaped from the apartment and went to an area hospital, where she told officials she was physically and sexually assaulted at gunpoint, WSYX reported. The victim told police that a man, later identified as Smoot, called himself King, the television station reported.

Court documents filed in Franklin County Municipal Court allege Smoot held one of the victims at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her. The other woman was kept in a dog cage for two days, according to court documents.

Police have not released the ages of the victims or further details about the circumstances surrounding the abductions and sexual assaults, WSYX reported.
