North Carolina elementary school student hit by car, killed after getting off school bus

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — An elementary school student died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon after getting off a school bus, Cabarrus County Schools officials told WSOC-TV.

The 10-year-old student, whose name was not immediately released, was hit just after 4 p.m., moments after being dropped off by a school bus on Mount Pleasant Road North near Mount Olive Road in Mount Pleasant, WSOC reported. The child was rushed to a hospital but did not survive, according to the news station.

School district officials told WSOC that the school bus that dropped off the student was not involved in the crash or at the scene when it happened.
