'Glee’ actress Naya Rivera called for help as she drowned, autopsy report says

LOS ANGELES — According to an autopsy report released Friday, “Glee” actress Naya Rivera raised her arm and called for help as she accidentally drowned at a California lake in July.

The report, released by the Ventura County medical examiner, said that Rivera’s 4-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, told investigators that he and the actress counted “1, 2, 3” and jumped off a pontoon boat on Lake Piru on July 8.

According to the report, the boy said Rivera, 33, told him to get back onto the boat, People reported.

“She helped him onto the boat and then he then heard (Rivera) yell ‘help’ and she put her arm in the air. She then disappeared into the water,” the report states.

The boy was found sleeping on the boat later that afternoon.

According to the medical examiner’s report, Rivera "knew how to swim well.” The man who rented the boat said Rivera declined a life vest but he put one aboard the vessel anyway.

However, officials noted in the report that Rivera was in good health but had a history of vertigo “that would get worse when she was in the water.”

The man who rented her the pontoon boat said she declined a life vest, but he put one aboard anyway, E! Online reported.

Rivera’s body was recovered July 13.

Rivera’s cause of death remains unchanged, The Associated Press reported.

“Her toxicology report shows a therapeutic level of phentermine, low/therapeutic levels of amphetamine and diazepam, caffeine, and a blood alcohol concentration of 0.016%," the medical examiner’s report said. "Based on the autopsy findings, known circumstances surrounding the death, and absence of anatomic or toxicological explanation for the death, as currently understood, the cause of death is drowning, and the manner of death is accident.”

Rivera was buried in a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles on July 24, according to her death certificate.
