For fans of “Jeopardy!” this week brings a heartbreaking change.
The classic answer-and-question quiz show will air the final episodes of long time host Alex Trebek.
Trebek died of pancreatic cancer Nov. 8, but had taped episodes a week before his death at the age of 80, the “Today” show reported.
The final episode, which had been scheduled to air on Christmas Day, will now air this Friday.
The decision to delay the broadcast was because of “anticipated preemptions” due to the holidays, officials with the show said in a statement.
The episode will be accompanied by a tribute to Trebek’s life and work.
Starting next week on Jan. 11, guest hosts will take the show’s reins.
Ken Jennings was tapped as a temporary host when the show resumed production on Nov. 30.
