Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott suffers gruesome ankle injury, carted off field during Giants contest

ARLINGTON, Texas — Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was carted off the field in the third quarter of Sunday’s matchup with the New York Giants after suffering what team officials confirmed was a right ankle injury.

Update 10:53 p.m. EDT Oct. 11: Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle that required immediate surgery, ESPN reported.

With his right leg in an air cast, Prescott left the field at AT&T Stadium on a cart and in tears before undergoing surgery to repair the fracture, the network reported.

The Cowboys beat the Giants 37-34.

The injury occurred on what appeared to be a designed quarterback draw play on a first-and-10 from the New York 27, when Prescott’s lower right leg “twisted awkwardly” during a clean tackle by Giants' defensive back Logan Ryan, NFL Network reported.

Prescott’s ankle appeared to be dislocated as he awaited help from medical personnel, ESPN reported.

According to the sports news network, former Cowboys coach and current Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett joined players from both teams in consoling Prescott as he was carted off the field of a hushed AT&T Stadium.

The outpouring of support for Prescott swept social media immediately.
