Dr. Mehmet Oz came to a stranger’s rescue Wednesday night on a flight from New York to Las Vegas.
Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and host of "The Doctor Oz Show", tells Page Six that after a passenger aboard the plane collapsed, he used electrode pads from the plane's Automated External Defibrillator to create a makeshift EKG test.
"I was grabbed by a stewardess on the plane after a 30-year-old guy collapsed," Oz told Page Six on Thursday. "I got him to lie on his back and [put] his feet up on the emergency doors, and with that I began to get a reasonable pulse and blood pressure."
On his way to the Consumer Electronics Show, Oz said he could not tell if the passenger was having a heart attack or not. “His blood pressure was really low but his heart rate was really high, Oz explained.
Following the plane’s landing, Oz said the passenger was taken to the emergency room.
Oz added that he later found out the man’s collapse was likely caused by the flu. “The evaluation so far is leaning towards a bad flu and a high fever caused his collapse,” Oz said.
This is not the first time Oz has jumped into action to help a stranger. At a book signing in Palm Beach last month, Oz saw, out of the corner of his eye, a 73-year-old woman starting to sweat and grab onto a nearby neighbor for support. Read more here.
