Psychic Ability: Karen Dryer believes her 5-year-old son’s psychic abilities saved him from being a victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. HollyBaby.com and Hollywoodlife.com quote her as saying, “Logan started kindergarten in September 2012. He was perfectly fine in September and October, and then in November he started acting strange. I got an email from his teacher saying he was a little weepy and then I started getting phone calls that Logan was crying and wanted to go home. Eventually it got so bad that I took him to the doctor who ran tests, saying that Logan was perfectly healthy.
I remember the principal, Dawn Hochsprung, getting on her knees and saying to Logan,’We love you and this is a wonderful place.’ Logan screamed back saying, ‘No, no! It’s not a safe place. I am scared.’ Logan’s doctor suggested that we take him out of school for a couple of weeks and home school him. So we had a tutor come in once a day for an hour and we would visit the school once a week so he could see his friends and teachers. But whenever we visited the school, he would start shaking and trembling. He would cry and he wouldn’t open his eyes.
My teenage daughter went to Sandy Hook and she loved it. So we have a long history there. I would get so frustrated, but I know my son and I had to listen to what he saying. I was not going to give him medication. I just had to be with him and trust that everything happens for a reason.”
We live down the street from the school and had just been there two days before the shooting. I remember getting a text that said there had been in incident and the local schools would be on shut down. Then I went on the Internet and read that there had been a shooting at Sandy Hook. I don’t know why but I grabbed my son and ran down to the school. I wanted to help. I felt so fortunate because I was one of the lucky parents holding their child.
My mother, Milly, who passed away a couple of months ago was very psychic, and I know now without a doubt that my son has the same gift.”
Ice Ice Baby: Some U.S. residents are staying warm during the country's current cold snap by burning their Christmas trees, wrapping paper and holiday gift boxes. State Farm has been receiving calls from customers, whose frozen pipes have burst. The average cost of a water damage claim from frozen pipes is $15,000.
State Farm recommends the following tips to minimize the risk of freezing pipes:
- Open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to piping under sinks and vanities near exterior walls
- Run a small trickle of water from hot and cold faucets during extreme cold
- Keep exterior doors to unheated spaces closed as much as possible during winter months
Timing Is Everything: The Cinemark movie theatre chain has invited the families of the victims of the Aurora, Colorado theatre shooting to attend the cinema's grand reopening. The parents, grandparents, cousins and widow of nine of the 12 people killed released this letter: “Thanks for making what is a very difficult holiday season that much more difficult. Timing is everything and yours is awful. Our family members will never be on this earth with us again, and a movie ticket and some token words from people who didn’t care enough to reach out to us, nor respond when we reached out to them to talk, is appalling.''
Weight Watchers: People are turning to "Cool Sculpting" to lose weight. The procedure involves clamping a gel patch to your skin, which freezes your fat cells before they are flushed away over the course of several months. "Cool Sculpting" is painless.
A new survey by Vanity Fair reveals that 36% of adults find their partner's TV viewing choices to be their biggest annoyance. Other annoyances:
doing household chores ... 16%

reading in bed ... 8%

7 Foods Destroying Your Good Mood from foxnews.com
1. Potato chips
Potato chips are a household staple in America. They are the side to every sandwich and the perfect chip to dip for football parties and barbecues. However, this party food can take your happiness quotient down a notch or two. Potato chips are potatoes fried in oils rich in omega-6 fatty acids that can block mood-enhancing omega-3 fatty acids. If you really want that crunch, try substituting almonds, which have been shown to deliver a calming sensation.
2. Soda
It’s no secret that soda is bad for you, but if you run to this beverage for comfort, you may experience a little less than happiness. The initial sugar rush will give you a quick “high,” but soon after, your mood will plummet as your blood sugar levels come crashing down. If you crave that soda sensation, try flavored carbonated water or add a squeeze of your favorite citrus fruit to a glass of club soda.
3. Margarine
Margarine's are made of inflammation-promoting, industrial fats that are harmful. Much like fried potato chips, the high levels of omega-6 fatty acids could tamper with your mood and healthy insulin levels. Natural is always a better choice than fake when it comes to healthy eating. If you must use butter, use the real thing, but in very moderate portions. Choosing healthy oils, like olive or coconut oil, are even better. Not only are they natural, you get a healthy dose of monounsaturated fatty acids and omega-3s.
4. Agave nectar
In recent years there has been a lot of hype surrounding agave nectar as a better choice for sweetening coffee, teas and generally replacing alternative sweeteners and sugar – because it is all-natural. Unfortunately, just like honey, it is loaded with concentrated levels of fructose. It may be all-natural, but too much can lead to insulin resistance, excess weight gain and mood instability. Excess sugar consumption, in all its forms, can cause peaks and valleys in blood sugar levels, which directly affect your mood.
5. Bagels
For a brief era, bagels gained a reputation for being a healthy food. Many people still believe this misconception and start their morning with a plump bagel smothered in cream cheese or butter. With or without the spreads, bagels are not a healthy choice and will virtually guarantee an energy crash long before lunch time. Bagels are a stealthy source of refined carbohydrates, and even the average 4-ounce whole wheat bagel racks up nearly 400 calories without butter or cream cheese. For a powerful, mood-boosting breakfast, choose half a whole-wheat English muffin with egg, which will deliver fiber, B vitamins and zinc.
6. Peanuts
Packaged, salted peanuts commonly served in bars, at parties and during baseball games are high in sodium and contain processed food additives, including monosodium glutamate (MSG) – an artificial flavoring linked to migraines, weakness, burning sensations, wheezing and difficulty breathing in some individuals. Symptoms like these can definitely cost you a good mood. Instead of peanuts, make a mix of nuts that are rich in antioxidants, nutritious minerals and omega-3s, such as walnuts, almonds and Brazil nuts.
7. Sweet potato casserole
Much like bagels, sweet potatoes have earned that “health food” reputation. A plain baked sweet potato in appropriate portions is a better choice than a white russet potato. However, the sweet potato’s role in marshmallow casseroles and candied homemade dishes is very, very bad for your health and your mood. All that sugary sweetness can make your blood sugar levels soar, raise your blood pressure and increase your risk of depression and Alzheimer’s disease. A better choice for stable blood sugar levels is vegetables, like carrots, radishes and cucumbers – complex carbohydrates with fiber and rich in a wide variety of vitamins and minerals.
Grey Area
A new survey by Lovehoney reveals that 50% of people attribute their improved love life in 2012 to Fifty Shades of Grey. Other findings:
- other reasons for better lovemaking include: more experimentation (55%), greater frequency (33%), and greater confidence (22%)
- the most popular New Year's Resolution after losing weight (62%) is more lovemaking
Junk Food Junkie
A new survey by Vitabiotics WellKid Baby Drops reveals that 33% of parents deal with fussy child eaters by bribing them with sweets. Other findings:
- 60% of toddlers are hooked on chocolate and sweets
- 26% of mothers let their baby taste chocolate before the age of nine months while over half give their baby the treat by the age of 12 months
- 61% of mothers give their toddler a sweet treat every day
- 90% of parents are confused about how to properly nourish their children
- 26% of parents add salt to their children’s food before they turn three
Work It
A University of Stanford study reveals that people overpay for health club memberships because of how often they think they will use them. Researchers studied 8,000 memberships from the Boston area and found:
- members went to the gym an average of less than five times per month
- average users were paying $17 per workout (as opposed to the $10 pay-per-use option)
- members were losing about $700 over the life of their gym contract
Stuff That Might Actually Be Cheaper In The Months To Come from The Consumerist
Streaming Video: With more companies, most notably Redbox, entering into a market once dominated by Netflix, it’s hoped that the increased competition will drive digital rental and download prices down a bit, or at least keep them from increasing. The Wall Street Journal’s Kelli Grant argues that the improved content on these streaming services will at the very least allow some consumers to save money by cutting back on their pay-TV packages or cutting the cord entirely.
Flat-Screen TVs: This one is probably a no-brainer to those who have watched LCD and LED prices drop significantly over the last few years. DealNews predicts that the biggest price cuts for TVs in 2013 will be in the 60? models, while WSJ points to the fact that a 32? TV now costs only half of what it did a few years ago. So people are getting more screen inches for their money.
Gaming: This one is a toughie, as there are no specific release dates or prices for the next generation of consoles from Microsoft or Sony. But if either of those next-gen consoles hits in 2013, prices on current generation Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s will likely take a dive. Regardless, both of these consoles — along with the growing popularity of downloaded games — could herald the end of the disc era. While that won’t drop prices this year, game makers will see huge savings when they no longer have to worry about manufacturing, printing, shipping, leakage and returns.
eBooks and Digital Magazines: Both DealNews and the Journal agree that the recent settlement of price-fixing allegations against a handful of the nation’s largest publishers will lead to eBooks finally being more affordable than their paperback counterparts. There are still some publishers who are refusing to settle and you’ll still see the “price determined by publisher” note on Amazon for those companies’ titles.
Smartphones: Historically, many of the $0 (plus 2-year contract) phone deals we’ve seen over the years have been on phones that were popular several haircuts ago. But DealNews says that there are an increasing number of these enticing deals featuring phones consumers actually covet. It is predicting that there will only be more of these no-cost (or even profitable, when you factor in bonus gift cards) deals during the next 11 months and 29 days.
Used Cars: The Journal’s Grant predicts that used car prices will drop 4% by the end of 2013, with half of that price drop coming in the year’s first quarter. As for new cars, Grant says that prices aren’t going down, but many car makers are putting new features into their vehicles without commensurate price increases.
Like A Virgin: Rebecca Bernardo is auctioning off her virginity to help her mother pay her medical expenses from a stroke. The 18 year-old Brazilian has received a high bid of $35,000. She says, "There comes a time when you have to make decisions to get what you want. You have to be strong."
Woman Harrasses Man With Merry Xmas Texts: A Greenfield, Wisconsin man recently called the police because his ex-girlfriend was sending him harrassing text messages. The “harassing” message read: “Merry Christmas.” The man was advised that the message was not harassing in nature.
Pay It Forward: Customers at a Tim Hortons in Winnipeg recently paid for other's coffee for three hours. The chain was doing a Random Cups of Kindness promotion, where they pay random guests' bills, when customers in the drive-thru started paying for the driver behind them. 228 orders were paid for. Store General Manager Troy Thompson says, "There was a lot of energy in the store. Our team was really excited and shouting out the number of pay it forwards all morning."
NOW magazine claims Demi Moore is playing games with Ashton Kutcher. A source says, ''She's obsessed with settling scores with Ashton and is being very strategic about who she's seen with. She wants to make him insecure about who she's dating. In her mind she's in the midst of a small scale psychological war with him.''
Sofia Vergara and boyfriend Nick Loeb got into a fight at a Miami club on New Year's Eve. A source tells the NY Post, ''Nick and Sofia were arguing before he got into a dispute with somebody at a neighboring table. Some pushing and shoving started. Sofia stepped in to try to calm the situation, but somehow she ended up getting pushed and shoved also. Her strapless dress was torn or pulled down in the melee, exposing her cleavage in front of other people and her son Manolo who was so offended he left the club. It was crazy. Nick was pulled away from Sofia and those at the next table by security guards, who dragged him out of the VIP section and threw him out of the club. Sofia followed him.”
Another source adds, “Things got pretty heated, but she was never hit. Nick was pretty bruised from struggling with security. None of the drama was Sofia’s fault, but despite the big scene [Loeb] created, they made up outside the club, and she took him back to their hotel.”
Kanye West's family was shocked by Kim Kardashian's pregnancy. His cousin, Tony Williams, tells Showbiz Spy, “Kanye flew in the day after Christmas without Kim to tell us the news. When he told us, the family was silent. We were all kind of shocked. Kanye asked me what I thought, and I told him, ‘You are 35 years old. You have to have a kid eventually’. Of course, we are all really excited for him and Kim. He did not say anything about them getting married, but no one asked.”
Kourtney Kardashian lost 44 pounds in the six months after she gave birth to her second child. She tells US Weekly, “There are times when I’d say, ‘I’ll walke up at 9 when everyone else is getting up.’ But she’d be like, ‘We’re working out.’ If one of us isn’t in the mood, we push each other. I think we motivate each other to eat well too. Yesterday my cousin sent us there buttery Armenian cookies called simit and Kim and I finished the entire bag! You can’t be trapped by some kind of strict diet plan. You need to live.”
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart allegedly fought before Christmas. A source tells Life & Style Weekly, “Kristen was all set to go to London with Rob for Christmas, but they got into a huge fight and he told her that she should stay in L.A. At the last minute, Kristen wanted her mom to go, too, but this trip was meant to be about Kristen spending more time with the Pattinsons. Bringing her mom was not the plan, and Rob was annoyed.”
Julianne Hough was abused as a tween while working in London. She tells Cosmo, “While I was in London, I was abused, mentally, physically, everything. I was 10 years old looking like I was 28, being a very sensual dancer. I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy facade because that was my job and my life. But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love. I’m a very forgiving person, and I don’t want to hurt anybody. What’s past is past. This is the farthest I’ve ever gotten into my London situation. I was told if I ever went back to the United States, three things were going to happen. One: I was going to amount to nothing. Two: I was going to work at Whataburger. And three: I was going to end up a slut. So, it was like, I can’t go back. I have to be this person,”
An L.A. paparazzo was killed while trying to photograph Justin Bieber's Ferrari. Cops stopped Justin's friend in the car before the photographer was struck and killed by another vehicle.
** UPDATE**
Photographer Chris Guerra claimed Justin was smoking weed and driving an hour before he was killed.
Justin says, “While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim. Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves.''
Miley Cyrus Tweeted: “Hope this paparazzi/JB accident brings on some changes in ’13 Paparazzi are dangerous! Wasn’t Princess Di[ana] enough of a wake up call?! It is unfair for anyone to put this on to Justin’s conscious as well! This was bound to happen! Your mom teaches u when your a child not to play in the street! The chaos that comes with the paparazzi acting like fools makes it impossible for anyone to make safe choices.”
Bruno Mars is a Prince groupie. He says, "I love artists like Prince, who hold on to that element of mystery. You don't know where the hell Prince is in this world. He's probably on a unicorn somewhere, you know?"
Rihanna would be disappointed if she married Chris Brown and Katy Perry didn't attend her wedding. A source tells Look magazine, "Of course Katy will be invited. She can see why Katy and plenty of her other friends can't get behind her decision. But Ri's not going to let anything affect anything. Rihanna wasn't at Katy's wedding to Russell [Brand], so it wouldn't be a shock to people if Katy doesn't turn up. But I think Rihanna would be really disappointed."
Kelly Clarkson lost 18 pounds. She says, "I lost 18 pounds. And I think that happens when you fall in love or date someone. If I'm going to be messing around, I gotta look good. There's not a fad diet. I was working with a trainer, and she said, 'You'd be amazed the amount of weight you can drop by halving your portions. I know it sounds crazy, but do it for two weeks and watch what happens.' I just cut back my portions, I stopped eating late at night, and I work out a little more than I used to, and I literally dropped 18 pounds in a month. I think it happens when you get really busy. But when I'm on my off-time – girl, those 18 might come back."
