Unsportsmanlike Conduct: NFL Commish Roger Goodell apologized yesterday for hiring replacement refs. He said, "Obviously when you go through something like this it is painful for everybody. Most importantly, it is painful for our fans. We are sorry to have to put our fans through that, but it is something that in the short term you sometimes have to do to make sure you get the right kind of deal for the long term and make sure you continue to grow the game. You're always worried about the short-term impact on your brand and the long-term impact on your brand. Obviously, this has gotten a lot of attention. It hasn't been positive, and it's something that you have to fight through and get to the long term. ... We always are going to have to work harder to make sure we get people's trust and confidence in us. The folks on the field during the last three weeks were under unprecedented scrutiny. Everything they did, every call, was magnified. They kept the game going. They worked hard. They trained hard. They were incredibly focused and dedicated."

The refs received a standing ovation before last night's Browns-Ravens game.

Grey Area: The Monroe, Connecticut police are looking for a perv, who harrassed a local librarian last week. He called the library and asked the woman to read Fifty Shades of Grey. She hung up when he started breathing heavy.

Smash and Grab: Five masked men rushed in to a Boca Raton, Florida Saks Fifth Avenue, smashed jewelry cases with sledgehammers and fled with some loot. The theft occurred at 8 pm as shoppers were browsing. The thieves fled in a black BMW.

Woman Fakes Cancer For Profit: The New Jersey police recently arrested Lori Stilley for theft by deception. She told friends she had bladder cancer and collected thousands in donations to pay for her wedding. Lori told her 7-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter that she was going to die and was going to enter hospice. On the day she was supposed to enter hospice, she told friends she was feeling better and her tumors were disappearing. Lori's sister went to the police. She says, "That moment is when I just knew, I felt in my heart that she had made it all up and and a lot of other people felt the same way. She never let anyone go to the doctor with her. She had said that she just wanted to do this alone. I had really never pressed her, but thinking back, I wish I did. She had said to me, 'There are only two things that I want: to turn 40 and to marry Bill. So I said to her that I can't make October come any faster, but I can plan a wedding. As people would question her, she would unfriend them and her husband would threaten them. My dad says that I went against the family, but what I did was out of love for my sister and trying to protect my niece and my nephew.''

Kristen Stewart didn't sleep with Rupert Sanders. A source tells RADAR Online, ''Kristen and Rupert both told their respective partners that they didn't actually have sex. Kristen was absolutely steadfast that she only engaged in several make-out sessions with Rupert but never slept with him. Rob didn't believe her in the beginning but as time wore on he accepted her explanation. Kristen has given Rob passwords to her voicemail and e-mail account to prove she has nothing to hide and will do anything to get his trust back."

5 Reasons Why More Sex Helps Your Career from emandlo.com

1.Honestly, in this recession, we think most people would take the raise over the sex (including us).

2.Yes! Sex beats shopping every time. (Or at least it should.)

3.Wait: Married couples having sex a little more than once a week leads to more frustration, fights and tension because that’s not enough? Seems kind of like a glass-is-half-empty analysis of the data, if you ask us.

4.Sex cleans your pores, prevents wrinkles and age spots, and gives your skin a healthy glow? Sounds like this came from the “semen is good for your skin” study out of Teanboi University. We do, however, agree wholeheartedly that if the average woman is spending $75 on facials per month (WTF?!), she could put that time and money to much better use (e.g. in some quality alone time with our Toy of the Month).

5.If calling sex “exercise” (admittedly a stretch) makes you do it more, then more power to you!

National Coffee Day Freebies and Deals from msn .. Saturday Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day

McDonald's: McDonald's got a head start on National Coffee Day by declaring National Coffee Week and offering a free small coffee every day, starting Sept. 23. Apparently, this is available only at East Coast locations. For example, this press release confirms the freebie in the Philadelphia area, and this article on Boston.com also mentions the deal. But even if you're not on the East Coast, you might want to call your local McDonald's and ask if it is offering any Coffee Week or Coffee Day deals. Some franchises elsewhere may also have elected to participate.

Einstein Bros. Bagels: Like McDonald's, Einstein Bros. Bagels locations are celebrating all things coffee all week long. However, instead of free coffee, you can enjoy 50% off specialty coffee drinks throughout the week. Each day brings a new discounted drink. On National Coffee Day, there is a BOGO (buy one, get one free) coffee offer for a pumpkin-flavored latte.

7-Eleven: This convenience store chain is calling Friday, Sept. 28, CofFREE Day. That's the day before National Coffee Day. When you stop in at a participating 7-Eleven store between 6 and 10 a.m. Friday, you'll receive a free large cup of hot coffee, cappuccino, latte or tea, while supplies last.

Caribou Coffee: Caribou Coffee locations nationwide are using National Coffee Day to debut Amy's Blend coffee, which it will be rolling out in October. At Caribou Coffee, your free cup of Amy's Blend is limited to the small size. If you'd like something bigger, you'll have to pay for it, but not much -- 50 cents for a medium and $1 for a large. Here are the details (.pdf file) on Caribou Coffee's National Coffee Day deal.

Kangaroo Express: The Kangaroo Express convenience store chain -- it's in 13 Southern states -- will sell its Bean Street brand of coffee for a penny on National Coffee Day. That's a penny for a 12-ounce cup of coffee. Hey, that's practically free!

Krispy Kreme: Just show up on Saturday, Sept. 29, and you'll get a free 12-ounce cup of coffee at Krispy Kreme. In addition, when you visit you'll have a chance to enter to win free coffee for a year.

SavOn Stores: This is not technically a National Coffee Day deal, but it's still a way to get free coffee from SavOn Stores, a convenience store chain in the upstate New York area. Every Monday morning through Oct. 29, teachers can receive a free cup of coffee (ID required).

Tim Hortons: Tim Hortons, a cafe and bake shop that started in Canada and now has more than 700 locations in the U.S., has a simple BOGO coffee deal: "Like" the cafe on Facebook and you'll be able to print out a coupon to get a free cup of coffee when you buy a cup on

Dunkin' Donuts: This coupon from Dunkin' Donuts lets you get a 10-ounce hot latte or 16-ounce iced latte for 99 cents through Sept. 30. These drinks normally start at $1.99, so there are definitely some savings with this offer, even if it isn't specifically tied to National Coffee Day

Student Sent Home For Having 16 Inches: On Tuesday, Florida's DeLand High School sent Asher Stonesifer home because he had a 16-inch mohawk. Officials said the spikes violated the school's dress code. Asher wore his hair down on Thursday and may spike it again during Spirit Day in October.

Jennifer Aniston allegedly got mad at Justin Theroux for inviting his ex-girlfriend to their wedding. A source tells NOW magazine, Jennifer hit the roof when she saw that he'd put Heidi on the guest list. Justin argued that Heidi's been part of his family for many years. Jen snapped back saying she was going to invite her exes Brad Pitt, John Mayer and Vince Vaughn! That seemed to help resolve things because now they've agreed no exes are to be invited.''

Katy Perry's parents prefer she date Robert Pattinson instead of John Mayer. A source tells NOW magazine, ''They find his attitude to women reprehensible. They'd love Katy to go out with someone nice like Robert Pattinson - not a man with John's reputation.''

Robert Pattinson's friends don't want him to reconcile with Kristen Stewart. A source tells People magazine, “Rob’s friends don’t want to see him hurt again, but it’s easier said than done. They keep telling him he needs some time and space, but they all think they will be a couple again, maybe as soon as they are together for the Twilight promos.”

A source tells Hollywoodlife.com, Things are ‘fragile’ as Pattinson works out his trust issues. They are apparently ‘more intense than they’ve ever been, especially Kristen. It’s like they’re desperate for each other all the time. She’s trying to see this as something that brought them closer together.’” Another source says, “They are working with a couples therapist to rebuild trust.''

Tom Cruise is allegedly after Cameron Diaz. A source tells Perez Hilton, “Tom and Cameron get on really well. Tom thinks Cameron is beautiful, intelligent and a lot of fun. He’d love for them to be more than friends. Tom’s felt so low since his divorce and Cameron’s company has really cheered him up. Cameron loves spending time with Tom, but in many ways she sees him as a brother figure. At the moment she’s just enjoying reconnecting with an old friend.”

Suri Cruise is studying Chinese. A source tells RADAR Online, “Suri is going to be learning Mandarin. She is the program for the Lower School which focuses on Chinese, and this is a great foundation for her. By graduation, all students will be expected to be fluent in a second world language, although some will push well beyond this requirement. Instruction will begin in the early years when students have proven capacities for language learning, with exposure to Mandarin and Spanish in the Early Learning Center.”

Alanis Morissette paid tribute to Billie Joe Armstrong while performing on Jimmy Kimmel. She covered Green Day's ''Basket Case'' and said, "We love you Billie Joe."

Beyonce is not pregnant. Jay-Z says, "Not in nine months, absolutely not. Not in one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight or nine months."

Lady Gaga has been gorging late at night. A source tells the Sun, ''The weight Gaga has put on isn't about the amount she is consuming in the day ' it's late at night.' With her intense performances right now she's burning off thousands of calories each night anyway so she will probably see some weight drop off over the next few weeks. She won't be succumbing to any pressure to drop the pounds. Gaga takes food seriously and doesn't want to deprive herself of it, especially when she's happy with how she looks.''

Katy Perry's ex-boyfriend recently killed himself. 'Sons of Anarchy' star Johnny Lewis leaped off his home after killing his landlord. A source says, ''She is devastated. She had to separate from him to get ahead and focus on her career. He was in trouble then and she couldn't help him. A lot of her songs were partially inspired by him. 'I know 'The One That Got Away' and 'Circle the Drain' are partly about him, as well as Travis McCoy. But she was young and it was a time in her life she cherishes.''

Keith Urban cried during the American Idol auditions in Chicago on Wednesday. He says, ''One person in particular who was accompanied by his parents to the audition. It marked the first time the “Idol” hopeful had sang in front of his parents. I was fortunate to have my parents support me. It was beautiful to see.”

Keith Urban loves American Idol. He says, ''What I like about Idol is that it's not just American Idol. It's American Dream. You know, you can come from absolutely nothing, from the tiniest town, and have this happen to you. For me, I went on a few shows like this when I was really young, and they helped me a lot. In the end, I had to still get out there and really hone my craft and learn to do what I do, but what's the chance of a kid from Australia making it here?"

Richie Sambora says he and Heather Locklear have become "better friends" since their divorce. "We're very good. It's actually even beyond for (our daughter's) sake. Heather and I really respect each other and we've become better friends, I think, now that we're not married. (We) go out all the time as a family."

Five British Words That Have Snuck Into Everyday American English

The British may think our American English is boorish and low-class.  And it is . . . which is a GOOD THING.  We don't want to be pretentious, right?

--Well . . . unfortunately some British English words HAVE been sneaking into everyday American English over the past decade.  Here are five British words and phrases that we now use without realizing it.

--Ginger.  The term for red-headed people was featured in "Harry Potter" and a famous episode of "South Park", which cemented its usage here in the U.S.

--Sell-by date.  The American version used to be "expiration date" ONLY . . . now we use both.

--Gastropub.  It means a bar that serves fancy food, and it started in England . . . where bar food used to be terrible by definition.  But now gastropubs are everywhere over there AND here.

--Chat up.  We still use "hit on," but you hear people saying "chat up" too, without sounding British at all.

--A bit.  I think this one comes from SIMON COWELL using it for a decade on "American Idol" and saying things like "That was a bit cabaret" or "Bit of a strange song choice."
