QUIKKIES: When your favorite stores will be open for Black Friday (and grey Thursday) & 10 tips to snagging great deals on Black Friday!

By Vikki Locke

Black Friday: 10 Tips to Snagging a Great Deal! fromtvpredictions.com

1. Read the Ads -- In Print & Online
Consumer World suggests that you carefully review your local newspapers on Thanksgiving Day. Usually, they will be stuffed with Black Friday ads and coupons. Bring them with you on the big day. Plus, many retailers are offering special Black Friday deals at their web sites. Don't forget to check them out 24-48 hours prior to the big day. (Also see Rule #6)

2. Evaluate the Deals
Don't assume every "deal" is a deal. Compare the "Black Friday" special price with the HDTV's normal price before buying. You can do that at various e-commerce web sites such as Amazon.com and BestBuy.com. You may even find a lower price online.

3. Buy a Good Product
A low price doesn't guarantee a high-quality television. Do some research and read product reviews at sites such as CNET.com. If you're not familiar with the product's brand name, check out its customer service record with organizations such as the Better Business Bureau.

4. Look For More Discounts
Some stores issue coupons or rebates on high-def sets and other products such as High-Definition DVD players. Find out if the discounts apply to the Black Friday specials.

5. Come Early
Some stores will offer special prices if you come in at a specific time, such as between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. Check out those Thanksgiving ads for "time restricted" specials. Also, this year, some stores are holding pre-Black Friday sales.

6. Beat the Early Birds
Some Black Friday deals at retail may be available at the store's web site. Check out the site in the wee hours of Friday morning and you might save yourself a trip to the store.

7. Check the Return Policy
Before buying, find out the store's return policy. Consumer World says some stores discourage returns by imposing restocking fees or placing frequent "returners" on blacklists.

8. Get a Gift Receipt
You can make a return easier for gift recipients by asking the store to place a receipt in a gift box. Without it, the store may not accept it.

9. Use the Right Credit Card
Some credit cards offer free benefits such as a return protection guarantee or purchase points that can be redeemed for other products. When you're buying a big-ticket item like a HDTV, that could pay off.

10. Save More With Price Guarantees
After buying the high-def set, keep your eye on the TV's price at other stores in the next month. Some stores will give you the difference between your price and a competitor's price during the holiday season.

Large amounts of alcohol and carbs are what make people sleepy.

Legal Clash: Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash resigned yesterday after being hit with another lawsuit. Another man claims he solicited him for sex when he was a minor. Cecil Singleton claims he met Clash on a gay chat line in 2003 when he was 15. His suit reads: ''Clash was an unmarried adult male living a prominent public life centered around the entertainment of toddlers, while at the same time he was, in secret, preying on teenage boys to satisfy his depraved sexual interests. Clash persuaded, induced, coerced, or enticed Cecil Singleton to meet him, whereby the former groomed [his accuser] to gain his trust by, among other things, taking him to nice dinners and giving him money. The complaint went on to add that as a result, Singleton suffered personal injuries, but while the sexual improprieties happened years ago, The plaintiff did not become aware that he had suffered adverse psychological and emotional effects from Kevin Clash's sexual acts and conduct until 2012." Singleton's lawsuit seeks $5 million in damages. He claims they dry-humped.

Second graders from all around the country were asked how to cook a turkey for Thanksgiving. Here are some of the better responses.

'First you shoot a turkey with a bow and arrow. Then you take it home. Then take the feathers off. Finally roast it on the oven three minutes straight. Last you put it on a plate and eat the turkey. Good Stuff.'

'I would put the turkey in the freezer. Then pluck out the feathers and season it. Then you cut off the beak. They cook it for 90 minutes. Take it out of the oven. Then get ready for the people to come.'

'I would kill a turkey with a lion. Then I would pluck its feathers. I would put butter on it. I will cook it on the grill for 30 minutes. I would eat it.'

The Facts Behind 5 Black Friday Myths from dealnews.com

1. MYTH: Black Friday Sales Begin on Black Friday Actually, several major retailers will launch their Black Friday sales as early as two weeks before the namesake day. Amazon, for example, will offer deals starting on November 17. We even see some deals sell out before Black Friday. Luckily, you can use this shopping tidbit at the dinner table as an excuse to step away from your drunk Uncle Roger.

2. MYTH: Stores Have Ample Stock of Doorbusters Unfortunately many "doorbusters" are exceptionally low-priced items meant to generate buzz and entice shoppers in-store. Most retailers have very limited quantities of these products, and it's likely that only the first few shoppers in line will snag them. For example, last year's mythic Sharp 42" HDTV deal for $199 at Best Buy was epic, but the retailer only guaranteed 10 units per store.

3. MYTH: You Need to Camp Out in Line to Get the Best Black Friday Deals If you're looking for an in-demand, limited-stock doorbuster, then being first in line when a store opens may be necessary to secure a highly coveted product. But these days, more and more Black Friday deals are available online as well as in-store. In fact, last year we found that 70% of in-store Black Friday deals were also available online for the same price — or less!

4. MYTH: In-store Black Friday Shopping is a Dangerous Contact Sport While there are always reports of overly-aggressive shoppers on Black Friday, a majority of consumers actually express feeling a sense of camaraderie while waiting in line. Plus, no store wants instances of violence to splash their name across the news, so they will do everything in their power to keep things in check. You might have to deal with large crowds and a mess of inventory, but the chances of encountering an actual brawl are extremely low.

5. MYTH: Everything on Sale on Black Friday is at its Lowest Price of the Year Although many Black Friday deals offer the lowest prices of the year, you should probably wait to buy toys, brand name HDTVs, and winter apparel.

Fun Facts And Trivia For Thanksgiving from fortleepatch.com

•That's a lot of turkey! In 2011, 248 million turkeys were estimated to be raised in the United States. That was up 2 percent from the number raised in 2010. The turkeys produced in 2010 weighed a combined 7.11 billion pounds and were valued at $4.37 billion. The average weight of a turkey purchased at Thanksgiving is 15 pounds. A turkey this size usually has about 70 percent white meat and 30 percent dark meat.

•Talk about leftovers! The heaviest turkey ever raised was 86 pounds, about the size of a large dog.

•Maybe the "Gobbler" State is more appropriate. It may be called the "Gopher" state but Minnesota leads the way in turkey rearing, with a whopping 46.5 million turkeys taking residence up north. It is followed by North Carolina (30.0 million), Arkansas (30.0 million), Missouri (18.0 million), Virginia (17.5 million) and Indiana (16.0 million). These six states together accounted for about two-thirds of U.S. turkeys produced in 2011.

•Canadian Turkeys. During the first half of 2011, the U.S. imported about $7.8 million worth of live turkeys from Canada. The United States ran a $3.6 million trade deficit in live turkeys during the period.

•Really? That much? In 2009, the typical American gobbled up 13.3 pounds of turkey. Surprisingly, Californians are the largest consumers of turkey in the United States.

•Sweet... All that turkey was accompanied by an average of 5.3 pounds of sweet potatoes per person. In 2010, major sweet potato producing states grew 2.4 billion pounds of this orange spud.

•Food Findings. More than 90% of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day, 50% percent put their stuffing inside the turkey and more than 40 million green bean casseroles are served on Thanksgiving.

•Not a turkey in sight! Chances are, turkey, mashed potatoes and corn were nowhere near the first Thanksgiving table. The first Thanksgiving in Plymouth, Massachusetts featured lobster, rabbit, chicken, fish, squashes, beans, chestnuts, hickory nuts, onions, leeks, dried fruits, maple syrup and honey, radishes, cabbage, carrots, eggs, and goat cheese are thought to have made up the first Thanksgiving feast.

•Mary Had a Little Turkey? Sarah Josepha Hale, an American magazine editor and author of the popular nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb", persuaded Abraham Lincoln to declare Thanksgiving a national holiday. President Lincoln issued a 'Thanksgiving Proclamation' on October 3, 1863 and officially set aside the last Thursday of November as the national day for Thanksgiving.

•A turkey by any other name. A female turkey is called a hen and makes a clucking sound. A male turkey is know as a "Tom" and gobbles. At maturity, the average turkey shows off 3,500 feathers.

•Flying the coop. The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimated that 42.2 million Americans traveled 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2010.

You Better Watch Out ... : Parents are using a Santa app to keep their kids in line. News Limited reports when Santa calls, his ID comes up on the screen and gives the impression to naughty children they are being watched by him. Child psychologist Dr John Irvine says, “These kinds of apps have made the Santa threat much more real and immediate and they could be abused by some parents in the lead-up to Christmas Day. What is the point in threatening something that you are not going to carry out? Is mom really going to cancel presents on Christmas day Empty threats are not useful as kids soon realize that there are no consequences.”

Gobble Gobble: Nancy and Willard Miller have 900 collectible turkeys in their home. The Zionsville, Ohio couple started collecting after Willard beat lung cancer in 1984. Nancy says, ''We have stuffed, ceramic, glass, knitted, wooden, and metal turkeys. Turkey magnets, salt and pepper shakers, cookie jars, jewelry, bags, statues and flags. The kids say when one of us or both of us die, they're gonna line them all up in the field out here [and] use BB guns. They'll all pick their favorite first. As long as they enjoy 'em, I don't care what they do with them.''

Lindsay Lohan's performance in Liz & Dick is being panned. A source tells the Sun Times, “This is really a disaster for Lindsay. It was supposed to be her big comeback — proving her two years of legal and addiction struggles had not hurt her once-acclaimed talent. Sorry to say, this will do just the opposite. A real mess of a movie … and Lohan is a huge part of the problem.”

Another source says, “It’s one thing to be known as troubled or difficult, but to be a joke — a laughingstock — that’s poison in this town.”

Another source says, “Lindsay believes there are a lot of people out there who just love seeing her fail or having problems. She’s tough. She won’t let this get her down, or, I hope, threaten her sobriety.”

Lindsay Lohan says unlike Liz Taylor, who she plays in Liz and Dick, she has never been drunk on set. "Elizabeth was drunk on sets. I've never been drunk on set, ever. I did my time and I respect the law. As hard as it was for me to admit it when I was in denial, it was a blessing in disguise. I was in solitary confinement and I took the time to really get into the right headspace. Marilyn Monroe went to an institution and said, 'I may not belong here like the world thinks I do, but I might as well take what I can get here and use it and help other people.' I think that’s what everyone should take from those experiences."

Robert Pattinson wants to get a tramp stamp to remember the Twilight films. He says, "It sounds cheesy, but it's been such a life-changing experience where you share a bond with people, it's weird. I remember hearing about Lord of the Rings, they all got tattoos … that'd be so funny, maybe we could get a little apple, a 'tramp stamp' with an apple."

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart may have kids. A source tells Hollywoodlife.com, “Rob finally caved this week. They were talking about their future and Rob told her that as long as she stays true to him, he’s willing to have a baby with her. She’s been on cloud nine ever since and can’t stop talking to her friends about it. She feels like she’s getting a second chance at life. Now that they’re back in a good place and planning their family, she feels alive again. She says she started crying when Rob told her.”

Demi Moore is allegedly delaying her divorce. A source tells RADAR Online, "Demi has instructed her attorneys to delay negotiations as much as possible. The main issue they have been fighting over has been the division of assets and the monetary settlement, but it's now gotten to the point where Ashton is willing to cave in to all of Demi's demands just to reach a settlement. However, Demi is totally playing hardball and every time they come close to reaching an agreement she throws up another objection or demand. It's driving Ashton nuts as he just wants to close that chapter of his life and move on, he and Mila are VERY serious about each other and although another marriage isn't going to happen immediately it is definitely something both Ashton and Mila have discussed and believe is in their future.''

Taylor Swift's friends vet her boyfriends. She says, ''I am totally a girl's girl! My girlfriends have stopped me from making a lot of bad choices. Your girlfriends are objective, they don't feel the desperate passionate feelings you're feeling. 'They just see that he cheated on you, he lied about it - and you still consider this as a viable option? We are totally those girls who say, 'He said he wants me back, do I text him back? Do I not text him back What do I do? Freeze him out? Yeah, OK, freeze him out'. It's a committee.''

Conor Kennedy is over Taylor Swift. A source tells Hollywoodlife.com, “They are still friendly, and they still talk, and he believes there still is a spark, but they live separate lives, so he supports Taylor with her relationship with Harry [Styles]. He is happy for her in whatever she does. The break was a healthy break with no drama, so he has no reason to be upset. Conor isn’t worrying about a song made about him and doesn’t believe there is a song about him on her new album.”

Taylor Swift will be in Tokyo for Thanksgiving. She says, “It’s gonna be interesting trying to find turkey there. That’s kinda how my life goes. Wherever I’m gonna be I’m gonna be. I know that when I am putting out a record all bets are off. I just put my head down and wake up when they tell me to and I just do what I’m told… like, a lot. That sounds depressing but I kinda think it’s fun.”

Lenny Kravitz has reportedly been tapped to play Marvin Gaye in a new movie about the singer's life.

Aerosmith isn't fighting. Joe Perry says, ''We were wondering, 'Who's saying this?' and 'Why are they saying this?' It's totally wrong and irrelevant. The least they could have done was get the facts right… The people they quoted haven't have anything to do with the band in 10 or 12 years. The band is getting along better than ever. We were thinking about [releasing a statement], but then why even validate it by even answering?"
