QUIKKIES: 7 foods that can save your memory!

By Vikki Locke

7 Foods That May Help Save Your Memory from health.com

  • Oil-Based Salad Dressing The data support eating foods that are high in vitamin E and this includes healthy vegetable oil-based salad dressings, seeds and nuts, peanut butter, and whole grains. The benefit has been seen with vitamin-E rich foods, but not supplements, she says. A potent antioxidant, vitamin E may help protect neurons or nerve cells. In Alzheimer’s disease, neurons in certain parts of the brain start to die, which jump-starts the cascade of events leading to cognitive deterioration.

  • Fish Salmon, mackerel, tuna, and other fish are rich in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, including docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). “In the brain, DHA seems to be very important for the normal functioning of neurons. Another plus: Eating more fish often means eating less red meat and other forms of protein that are high in artery-clogging saturated fats.

  • Dark Green Leafy Vegetables Kale, collard greens, spinach, and broccoli are good sources of vitamin E and folate. For example, one cup of raw spinach has 15% of your daily intake of vitamin E, and 1/2 a cup of cooked spinach has 25% of your daily intake. Exactly how folate may protect the brain is unclear, but it may be by lowering levels of an amino acid known as homocysteine in the blood. High levels of homocysteine may trigger the death of nerve cells in the brain, but folic acid helps break down homocysteine levels.

  • Avocado This creamy treat is also a rich source of the antioxidant vitamin E. Research by Morris and her colleague suggests that foods rich in vitamin E—including avocado, which is also high in the antioxidant powerhouse vitamin C—are associated with a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s.

  • Sunflower Seeds Seeds, including sunflower seeds, are also good sources of vitamin E. One ounce of dry-roasted sunflower seeds contains 30% of your recommended daily intake. Sprinkle them on top of your salad to give your brain a boost.

  • Peanuts and Peanut Butter Although both are high in fat, peanuts and peanut butter tend to be a source of healthy fats. And they are also packed with vitamin E. Both foods may help keep the heart and brain healthy and functioning properly. Other good choices are almonds and hazelnuts.

  • Red Wine Studies have shown that people who consume moderate amounts of red wine and other types of alcohol may be at reduced risk for Alzheimer’s disease, but it may be that there is something else that tipplers do or don’t do that affects their risk of developing Alzheimer’s. People who drink alcohol or eat healthy may be healthier in other aspects of their life, so it is difficult to disentangle whether it’s the healthy diet that protects them versus other healthy behaviors.

I’m not saying I’d go do that or anything like that, by any means, but if it was to happen I don’t think I’d care one bit. Well, it’s not something I would dwell on.  CIA Stands For Caught In Affair: CIA chief Gen. David Petraeus resigned after having an affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell.  Jon Hamm's girlfriend has ordered him to wear underwear. A source tells the Star, “Jennifer is furious with Jon for walking around, letting it all hang out. Jon has always preferred being au natural, but after yet another round of pictures popped up, Jen freaked out. The Social Network

A new study by Columbia University reveals that Facebook users who interact with large numbers of online friends on a regular basis feel better about themselves. Researcher Keith Wilcox says, ''Simply browsing Facebook makes people feel better about themselves and momentarily enhances their self-esteem. It’s that enhanced self-esteem that ultimately lowers your self-control. When you feel good, you can rationalize ordering dessert or buying something you don’t really need. 'I feel good today,' you tell yourself. 'I deserve a treat.' The results found that Facebook users with strong social ties typically had a higher body-mass index (BMI), were more prone to binge eating, carried more credit card debt and had lower credit scores. Facebook use 'is causing people to have reduced self-control in a variety of situations.''

Only 29% of workers feel they currently have career advancement opportunities with their current employer. 53%, say they would prefer to be on the move, switching jobs as opportunities come up — versus staying with one employer for an extended period of time. Even more, 70%, say having multiple employers is more beneficial to one’s career growth prospects.

The truth is, he doesn’t even believe in the institution of marriage, and he finds the ceremonies terribly boring.”

Simon Cowell recently spent $150,000 on security. A source tells the Sun, ''Simon's a perfectionist about everything and his security renovations were so extensive he's had to put in for planning permission to get them done. He basically wants to transform his London home into a fortress.''

It was around the time his daughter Jessica was married to Nick Lachey and the success of 98 Degrees made Joe believe there was money to be made in that business. Everyone was getting their photos taken with him. The scrap all started when this guy took his hat. I think he was just joking, but Shia didn’t like it. The guy just took it off him and wouldn’t give it back. He tried to get it back and they ended up tussling. It was handbags really. Taylor Swift has released a new photo book called ''8 Hours/Taylor Swift''. She will perform on The X Factor on Thursday.

Chad Kroeger is having a rock and roll wedding. He says, Avril's got great ideas. I would have gone a little too traditional, I think, and she's giving it a real rock 'n' roll edge. The groomsmen won't be wearing piano neckties (but) let's just say she's taking the bull by the horns and steering the ship towards what is going to be the most unique wedding that the planet has probably ever seen. There was a time in my life that I thought I would never get married. But this definitely took me by storm. Honestly, it was more my idea than hers to get married. I'm just lucky she said yes."
