What Your Baby's Name Says About You from ivllage.com
Place Names Names like: Brooklyn, London, Bronx, Africa, Juno, Dakota, Savannah, Tennessee What it says about you: Parents who pick specific locations want their kids to project a certain image -- often a romantic or exotic one. (There's a reason you meet more people named Paris than Peoria!) Borrowing a name from a glamorous international capital like London suggests that you're picturing your kid in the limelight, while Cheyenne shows a romantic sensibility about the American past.
Religious Names Names like: Grace, Eve, Faith, Delilah, Genesis or Mary What it says about you: A biblical baby name doesn't guarantee that a family is super religious or practices a certain faith -- but it's a good bet! Devout families of all faiths -- Christian, Jewish and especially Muslim -- will invariably opt for a spiritual choice. Faith is the most vital element they wish to impart to their child, whether it’s a straightforward Puritan virtue name such as Faith, Grace or Mercy, or Destiny, Genesis and Trinity, which came into favor in the '90s.
Vintage Names Names like: Sadie, Birdie, Theo, Archie, Hattie, Clara, Cora, Frances, Beatrice, Everett What it says about you: Parents who choose an old-fashioned name that’s been out of favor for decades (or centuries!) are actually fashion-forward. As with most trends, names cycle in popularity. What once was in falls out of favor only to be loved again a few generations down the road. . Midcentury mom and pop names and Victorian names sound fresh again and are hot, so the parent who chooses one is on trend (and also impervious to the scorn of in-laws shocked by their choice of Ethel or Walter). Vintage names also seem to have a big celeb appeal: just look at Tori Spelling's Hattie, Amy Poehler's Archie and Christina Applegate's Sadie Grace.
Nature Names Names like: Skye, River, Blossom, Forrest, Olive, Sage, Lily, Iris, Sparrow What it says about you: Naming your child after one of Mother Nature's many miracles probably means you're a free spirit who appreciates the world around you. Of course, the green movement -- and all of its eco-conscious, recycling, composting parents -- has contributed to the explosion of nature names. Flower names have moved beyond the sweet Victorian-tinged Rose, Lily, Violet and Daisy to more exotic blooms such as Azalea, Camellia, Lilac, Magnolia and Zinnia. Plus there's a whole new flock of bird names like Wren, Lark, Starling, Dove and Hawk.
Politically Incorrect: A South Florida firehouse is under fire for using Barack Obama toilet paper. Administrators in Pompano Beach say, “If you have an opinion your certainly entitled to it, everyone has their opinion. Put it on your own personal vehicle or your own personal things. But you don’t display it on city property, on city grounds that maybe someone else doesn’t agree with that politically motivated and its inappropriate.”
Chip And Dip: Michigan restaurateur Dean Bach recently drove to New York with 20,000 pounds of salsa, hummus and chips to feed victims of Hurricane Sandy. He also brought 40 cases of dog food and 40,000 bottles of water.
Not So Merry Maids: Susan Warren broke into an Elyria, Ohio home and took out the trash, vacuumed, dusted, and washed mugs before leaving a $75 bill on a napkin. She plead guilty to attempted burglary charges and will be sentenced next month.
Soothe The Beast: A new study by Colorado State University reveals that dogs are soothed by classical music while heavy metal makes them anxious. Researcher Lori Kogan says, ''The dogs listening to classical music, which were of varying breeds, were generally more relaxed and restful than dogs in the no-music control group, while those listening to heavy metal displayed increased anxiety and unrest. I did thousands of behavioral assessments over a period of four months ... So the likelihood that this is an error is pretty small It does fly in the face of what [Pet CD advocates] talk about, which is that more simplistic music should be more relaxing. The plus side is that you can download classical music for free."
The Bionic Man: Zac Vawter climbed Chicago's Willis Tower yesterday with a bionic leg. The 31-year-old amputee walked up 103 stairs in 45 minutes. The charity event "SkyRise Chicago'' raises funds for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Christina Aguilera and Lady GaGa are feuding. A source tells the Star, “Christina is threatened by any successful woman, but Gaga really gets under her skin. Christina’s fragrance line is her baby, and she’s extremely territorial – especially since her album sales have tanked. When Gaga first arrived on the scene, Christina predicted she’d be a one-hit wonder. It drives her crazy that she was so wrong. Christina can be really low-class and has been saying she wants to kick Gaga’s ass! They could easily end up at the same party, especially with the holidays coming up. Things could really get out of hand.”
Joe Simpson has no plans to come out. A source tells Perez Hilton, “Joe doesn’t want to publicly admit he’s gay. Despite his alleged dalliances with gay men, he’s still a devout family man. He knows he’s deeply embarrassed Tina, Jessica and Ashlee, especially by the way he’s been outed. As a matter of respect to them, he’s decided that he won’t be commenting about his sexuality; it’s a private discussion for their ears only. He feels terrible for hurting Tina in such a way, especially because their relationship was built upon the foundation of a beautiful friendship. Joe’s also afraid of destroying his reputation as a pastor and a Christian. In his youth group he spoke against homosexuality and taught his kids that it was wrong. He would look pretty hypocritical if he came out now.”
Leonardo DiCaprio and Erin Heatherton are done. A source tells the NY Post, “Erin wanted things to get more serious between them, but Leo is not ready to settle down. While it would seem amazing that he wouldn’t want to settle down with one of the world’s most beautiful women, Leo leads a charmed life. A few months back it seemed like he was really into Erin. She’s smart, beautiful and, importantly, got on with his mom.” Another source continued, “They are still friends. The timing just wasn’t right for them. They
Khloe Kardashian allegedly wants Kim to dump Kanye West. A source tells Perez Hilton, “Thinks Kim is making the same mistake all over again. Kim is following her old pattern of falling hard for a guy she barely knows. She thinks Kim will get hurt again.”
Dennis Rodman partied after getting booted from ''All-Star Celebrity Apprentice”. A source tells the NY Post, “He was telling people he was happy to be off the show, and this time he lasted longer than his last go. He was drinking champagne and doing shots of Jagermeister. He acted like he was rolling in money, showering girls and strangers with $500 worth of singles he had in his pocket. He even treated random partygoers to lap dances.”
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel may raise their family in Tennessee. A source tells Showbiz Spy, “He hates the idea of raising his kids in Los Angeles with all of the paparazzi and constant attention. Plus, Justin thinks the South is the best place in the world to grow up, he wants that for his kids. Beneath all of the Hollywood nonsense, Justin’s a simple country guy who always wanted a big family. Jessica’s totally up for a change of scene. She wants a slower pace of life now she’s older. She is super domestic, her favorite hobby is baking but she even knits and does needlepoint.”
The Star claims Wilmer Valderrama and Eva Longoria recently attended a play together. A source says, “Wilmer and Eva went in and sat down next to each other — and as soon as the lights went out, she tucked her arm under his and they held hands the entire play. She kept whispering in his ear and laying her head on his shoulder. They were really the cutest couple.”
Katy Perry allegedly lectured Kristen Stewart about cheating on Robert Pattinson. A source tells NOW magazine, ''Katy didn't think Rob would ever get over the humiliation. She told K-Stew that she'll be an outcast if it happens again.''
Russell Brand sent Katy Perry a bracelet for her birthday. A source tells the Sun, ''Even though they've broken up, Russell wanted to send Katy something. He thought it would be nice to let her know he's thinking of her.''
Taylor Kinney has fallen for Lady GaGa. He says, “I look up to a strong woman, maybe that’s why I fell for GaGa. She works incredibly hard and is very strong and inspirational like my mom, with a great work ethic. I do want to give mom grandchildren, of course. I think I’d be a good dad, it would be a pleasure. I’d love it – and I’m in my 30s now. My mom wants me to get married, and have children of course. She’s met Gaga, we’ve been dating a while, we’re in a committed relationship and I’m really happy in my relationship. I’m a very lucky guy. As far as having more of a domestic life and settling down into my relationship we have to see what happens. I use all the money I make on flights to see the people I love. If I spent it on fancy cars, homes and material stuff I wouldn’t be able to do that. I have the freedom to see the people I care about — my girlfriend and my family. GaGa and I rely on space ships, very fast transport, to see each other.”
Lady GaGa recently defended her weight. She said, “Adele is bigger than me, how come nobody says anything about it? She’s so wonderful and I think her confidence is something I have to match. She has set the bar very high for a lot of women. I need to be a confident woman and just say politically active things when I can that are helpful to young people.''
Adele has purchased a $4 million London mansion
Katy Perry and Rihanna have allegedly cooled their friendship since Rihanna reunited with Chris Brown. A source tells Hollywoodlife.com, “They’re barely talking and ever since the couple reunited, there has been tension between them. Katy has been spending a lot of time with pals Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Katy fears Rihanna is making a huge mistake and doesn’t want to be part of it.''
Taylor Swift dumped Conor Kennedy. A source tells the National Enquirer, “Conor’s just devastated that Taylor chose career over love. She’s making it appear Conor did the dumping because she didn’t want to come out looking like the villain. But the bottom line is the poor kid is heartsick over the breakup. He believed they were headed to the altar. He’s still reeling from the suicide of his mom Mary in May, and the Kennedys are very concerned his broken heart will take a long time to heal. Although Ethel and Rory Kennedy had embraced Taylor, she didn’t like the conflict with Maria Shriver, Caroline Kennedy and some other members of the family,” said the source. “It was ruining her goody-goody image and became another reason she wanted out of the relationship. Taylor took advantage of Conor at a time when he was most vulnerable. Now that they’ve broken up, Conor is a wreck. He’s trying to forget about Taylor. Meanwhile, she’s already put him out of her mind and is concentrating on selling her latest record.”
Taylor Swift doesn't give voting advice. She says, “I follow it, and I try to keep myself as educated and informed as possible. But I don’t talk about politics because it might influence other people. And I don’t think that I know enough yet in life to be telling people who to vote for.”
Aerosmith almost wore makeup. Joe Perry says, ''The first time we saw KISS and we saw KISS go down in a most amazing way, the audience loved them and we were like, 'All we do is play, does this mean we're going to have to put make up on?' When we saw The Dolls you know wearing tu-tus and pumps you know it was like, 'Do you have to do that to make it, what is it?' So we just stuck to our guns and kept writing songs and turning the guitars up.''
Jon Bon Jovi was left devastated by Hurricane Sandy. He told NBC, "It’s gone. The entire Jersey Shore that I knew is gone. It was hard to see your hometown devastated like this and people that I grew up with… My grammar school turned into a shelter. People’s homes gone and them saying to me, 'We are now homeless. We never intended to be homeless.' These are hard-working, blue-collar people."
