5 Facts About Cinco de Mayo from the Mother Nature Network

1. Cinco de Mayo IS NOT Mexico’s Independence Day. Most Americans confuse this holiday with Mexico's Independence Day, but that date is Sept. 16.

2. Cinco de Mayo IS a celebration of the Battle of Puebla. The holiday commemorates the Mexican Army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867).

3. Cinco de Mayo IS a celebrations of underdogs. Why make such a big deal over one victory? The win at Puebla was a huge deal for Mexico because the Mexican Army went into the battle as underdogs. They had no training and no equipment and were vastly outnumbered against the well-armed, well-disciplined and well-funded French, who up until that point had defeated them at every turn. Yet, they prevailed.

4. Cinco de Mayo IS NOT really a big deal in Mexico. With all of the fuss around May 5th here in the U.S., you would think it was the biggest holiday in Mexico — but that's not the case. That honor goes to Mexican Independence Day. Still, Mexicans do celebrate the day with family get-togethers, fireworks, dancing and lots of yummy food.

5. Cinco de Mayo IS a holiday for everyone to celebrate. Many towns around the U.S. have festivals, fiestas, dances, fireworks, food and music in honor of the holiday. It's a great time to teach your kids about the culture, people and history of Mexico — or even learn a little yourself.

Deputy Fired For Jailhouse Rock: Summit County, Ohio deputy Dominic Martucci was recently fired for making inmates dance to Usher. Some inmates did the worm, while others chose the old school robot dance. The best dancers got to use the jail microwave. Martucci blared the music from a smartphone. He got busted after an inmate complained

Avengers star Chris Evans says he often goes out in a disguise. "I usually go out with a beard, sunglasses and a cap but somehow the kids see right through it. I can be in a crowd and a kid will see me and look open mouthed. It's actually something I love because kids are so cute with that kind of thing."

Mark Ruffalo had to leave the premiere of The Avengers because his young daughter was terrified by his big screen transformation from Bruce Banner into The Hulk. He tells UGO News, "She was like, 'I don't like this... Why do you want to kill that girl?' She totally freaked out."

Mark Ruffalo says he patterned the Hulk after his son. “I was channeling my 10-year-old son, who I dedicate my performance to. It’s that horrible moment in a child’s life when the world expects a certain kind of behavior from [them], but [they] can’t quite hold it together and [they] break out in rage and it’s Hulk-like. So, I used him quite a bit for that character.”

Scarlett Johansson says filming The Avengers was painfully hot. "It was like playing dress-up to the extreme. It felt like being a little kid. When each scene ended, all our costumes were unzipped and some air conditioning venting unit goes in. Someone is having a wig removed. We all had our various things that we have to do to get comfortable. Everybody looked incredibly uncomfortable until the cameras are rolling and then we all look f***ing badass. Then 'Cut!' and we're all like, 'Arrrgh… God, this thing, get it off me, it's awful!'"

Kim Kardashian wants kids. A source tells Showbiz Spy, “After Kim dissolved her marriage to Kris Humphries, she feared that her dream of having children would never come true. At this moment in my life, I feel like maybe I’m not supposed to have kids and all that,” she said dejectedly right after the split. It’s taken months, but Kim has finally made moves to rebuild her life her own way — which means exploring her options for adopting as a single parent without delay. She would like to adopt a baby from Armenia.”

Cory Monteith isn't ready to marry fellow Glee star Lea Michele. A source tells HollywoodLife.com, “Lea is trying to move things very fast, but Cory in no way wants to settle down. They both really love each other … but moving in and engagement/marriage is premature at best. Engagement is nowhere close to being a reality between the two at this time and moving in together is also not an option quite yet.”

Adele is ready for marriage. She says, “Come on! I’m wifey material! I’m great. No one’s got to be brave. It’s not like, ‘You screw me over and I’m going to write a record and make you the most hated man in the world.’ I am never writing a breakup record again, by the way. I’m done with being a bitter witch.”
