Drive For the Border: Some Americans are crossing the U.S.-Mexico border to buy gas. The national average for a gallon of gas is hovering around $3.80. In Mexico, it's a $1.50 or less. The U.S. State Department is warning drivers against making the trip because of drug cartel violence. The reason gas in Mexico is so cheap is because the government regulates prices. Fuel experts don't always recommend Mexican gas because of its sometimes poor quality.
Hero: Hot air balloon pilot Edward Ristaino is being hailed as a hero for saving his passengers before perishing in a storm in Georgia. On Friday, he and his guests took off into sunny skies before a fast moving storm rocked their carriage. Ristaino found a safe field where his skydivers parachuted to safety. The storm then carried him 18,000 feet in the air before wrecking his carriage and sending him plummeting 16,000 feet into some trees. Ristaino was found yesterday by a search party.
The Pitts: George Clooney told the Secret Service he was Brad Pitt when he was getting arrested last Friday for protesting outside of the Sudan Embassy. His cellmate, Fred Kramer, says, "I was in the paddy wagon with George, and I think three congressmen and Martin Luther King III. George was really the movie star gentlemen, he made everyone feel comfortable. He was cracking jokes. When it came time to tell the Secret Service who we all were, he tried to pass himself off as Brad Pitt.”
A new company, called Dial-a-Star, allows fans to talk to their favorite celebs. Company founder Gina Rodriguez tells the Huff Post, "Celebrities can charge whatever they want per minute and get to keep 50 percent of whatever they make. Danielle Staub has been doing great with it. I also think recording artists will do really well. Imagine if Lady Gaga did it."
Bad Apple Gets Arrested After Stripping At Applebees: Jeffrey Thompson was recently arrested after he stripped naked while singing Karaoke at a Melbourne, Florida Applebee’s. The 28 year-old was drunk and punched a manager before fleeing. A police officer, who was working at the restaurant, used a Taser to subdue him.
Tween Receives Jury Duty Notice: Nine year-old Jacob Clark recently received a Massachussetts jury duty summons in the mail. His parents called the jury commission office and discovered they listed his birth year as 1982 instead of 2002.
Kathy Bates is going to guest star on Two And A Half Men as the ghost of Charlie Sheen. On the April 30th episode, Jon Cryer will suffer a minor heart attack before Bates visits him in the hospital.
Britney Spears and Stacey Keibler may both join The X Factor. A source says, “Talks are still ongoing with Britney, and she is asking for a lot more money, than was originally offered. But producers are confident Britney will realize this is a great opportunity for her to reinvent herself and accept their deal.” Another source says, “Stacy Keibler is also in talks to join the show, but her lack of experience in the music business may make her more appropriate as a host. She looks fantastic and has bags of charisma.”
Cee Lo Green's cat on The Voice, Puurfect, is a rescue cat. A source tells E!, "Purrfect is a rented cat that happens to be a rescue. It was Cee Lo's idea to have a cat this season; however, due to his travel schedule, he is not able to care for an animal full-time. Cee Lo liked the idea of working with a rescue as he loves animals."
Disney is going to lose $200 million because John Carter flopped at the box office. They released a statement saying, “In light of the theatrical performance of John Carter ($184 million global box office), we expect the film to generate an operating loss of approximately $200 million during our second fiscal quarter ending March 31. As a result, our current expectation is that the Studio segment will have an operating loss of between $80 and $120 million for the second quarter. As we look forward to the second half of the year, we are excited about the upcoming releases of The Avengers and Brave, which we believe have tremendous potential to drive value for the Studio and the rest of the company.”
Beyonce may tour. A source tells the NY Post, “Just weeks after the birth of Blue Ivy, Jay met with Live Nation to discuss a tour for Beyoncé. He wanted a deal worth about $150million, but they countered with a lower offer.” Beyoncé had earlier hinted that she may tour again this year
Adele hopes to drop two dress sizes by the beginning of the summer. A source says, 'Adele has found so much more energy now she's quit smoking. She really wants to get healthier, now that she's halfway there. She had always been curious about Pilates but until recently there just hadn't been any time."
Chris Brown has taken his girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, to Cancun for a vacation.
Battleship director Peter Berg loved working with Rihanna. He says, "I saw one of her videos and she was really cocky and sassy, very scrappy. There was a certain inherent toughness to her. Everyone thought I was crazy but I put a call out and asked her to come in. She was funny and tough, a natural performer... I wanted a gorgeous girl. I'll be very honest about that, but I wanted someone who could act. I put her through more audition paces than anyone else and wouldn't let her stop until she was crying real tears!"
Rihanna says she developed a crush on her Battleship co-star, Liam Neeson. “The first day Liam was on set, I was crazy nervous because I've loved him for years. He was amazing in “Schindler's List” and so sexy in “Rob Roy”, I've always had a crush on him. He's so tall and manly — what woman doesn't have a crush on Liam Neeson? So I was basically hiding out in my trailer, asking for more make-up to be done, just stalling as much as I could. Like, I wanted to meet him but I was so scared. We're finally introduced and I'm completely speechless — I don't even know what I said, if it was English — and I'm looking down at my shoes."
Justin Bieber is featured on the cover of the new Complex magazine. He is shown with black eyes, a bloodied lip and meat on one of his eyes.
On his relationship with Selena Gomez: “There’s no way to hide the relationship completely, because then it would be unfair to us. It’s like, ‘You take this car, and I’ll take this car, and then we’ll meet up at the spot. Then, you go in this door, I’ll go in this door. We’ll end up crossing ways. You get back in this car. We’ll cross over, do a James Bond. You go through the kitchen. I’ll go through the back area. Then we’ll meet in the dressing room and see each other.’ At that point, it’s not even a relationship. You’re just hiding from everyone. That’s unfair and unhealthy, man.”
On the paparazzi: "I’ll be covering my face and it pisses me off so much when people say, 'Get over it, Justin. You’re famous. People are going to take your picture. Suck it up, you’re rich…' It’s like, 'Yo, I just got off an eight-hour flight. I’m tired and my eyes have bags under them. I’m not trying to take pictures. I’m not going to come to your house, wake you up, and start snapping your picture.'"
Taylor Swift says she and The Civil Wars purposely toned down 'Safe and Sound' for The Hunger Games soundtrack. She tells Rolling Stone, "The Civil Wars had a show that night in L.A. So they raced right over to T Bone's house. There's so many things he could've done production-wise to make that song bigger sonically than it is, but I think that would have possibly been a mistake. For him to have left the song as a lullaby is brilliant." Swift has been performing her other Hunger Games song, Eyes Open, during shows.
Steven Tyler tells Vogue that all 3 American Idol judges are sexually attracted to one another. “Jennifer freaks me out every time I’m around her. By the time all three of us are muffed and buffed and puffed I think we’re all sexually attracted to each other, first and foremost. There’s a lot of healthy adult sexuality going on up there. But what’s deeper than that is our music and what we know about music. And Jennifer is such an alpha-female. She comes off as very strong, with a lot of conviction, and very believable. Hence, the American public has fallen in love with her.”
Lenny Kravitz based his Hunger Games character, Cinna, on one of his bisexual friends. He says, "I’ll be quite frank with you, I didn’t know about 'Hunger Games,' so when I’m telling kids and they say, 'Who are you playing?' and I say Cinna, they go, ‘Oh, you’re playing the gay guy.' That was an actual answer. So I thought about it, and I read the book, and I don’t see that he is or isn't [gay]. He's a designer, he's a stylist, he has gold eyeliner — that doesn’t mean anything either way. I actually have a friend who is a dancer who is bisexual, and he was a lot of inspiration for my speech pattern and my rhythm, and kind of the way I sauntered in and out a little bit."
