Lifeguard Fired After Saving Drowning Man .. Lifeguard Tomas Lopez was recently fired for rescuing a man. His bosses terminated him because he stepped out of the Hallandale, Florida beach zone his company is paid to patrol. Lopez's boss, Susan Ellis, says, "We have liability issues and can't go out of the protected area. What he did was his own decision. He knew the company rules and did what he thought he needed to do." Lopez says, "I ran out to do the job I was trained to do. I didn't think about it at all. It was a long run, but someone needed my help. I wasn't going to say no. They (bosses) didn't tell me in a bad way. It was more like they were sorry, but rules are rules. I couldn't believe what was happening."
Lopez was offered his job back yesterday. He declined the offer.

Cruise Control: Tom Cruise is going to court so he can see Suri. A source tells RADAR Online, "Tom has told Dennis and Bert Fields, his long-time entertainment lawyer, that his first priority is getting a court order in place, obviously a temporary one, that will allow him to legally see his daughter. Team Cruise has extensive documentation to prove that Los Angeles is where the case should proceed, because this is where he says they have lived. Tom is extremely disappointed that Katie filed in New York, and he feels that she is trying to cut him out of their daughter's life."
Tom's lawyer, Bert Fields, says, “Tactically we can’t say where Tom will file a divorce case and if he’ll be seeking joint custody of Suri. We are letting ‘the other side’ (Katie and her team), play the media until they wear everyone out and then we’ll have something to say. It’s not Tom’s style to do this publicly. He is really sad about what’s happening.”
Tom has been calling Suri several times a day.
The Bounter Hunter Too: Joshua Garlathy has been sentenced to 90 days of probation and ordered to pay $32,000 in back child support. A bounty hunter lured him from Hawaii to Pennsylvania by promising him a role in a Jennifer Aniston movie. Garlathy was arrested under a new law making it a crime to move out of state to avoid paying child support.
Grey Area: 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is going to cause a baby boom. Staffordshire University Professor Ellis Cashmore says, "With the millions of copies it has sold, it makes complete sense to assume that in nine months' time we are going see a baby boom. By the very nature of the subject matter, I'm sure we can expect to see some couples revisiting and reigniting ideas that may have lain dormant for some time in the bedroom. It may reawaken passions or just accentuate the passions that already exist within relationships. It is a very sexy book, from what I have read, nothing too over the top graphically - but it has struck a chord by exploring the woman's mind in sexual situations, from her point of view. It is already quite a phenomenon, every woman is talking about it - whether it be in the gym, at work, on the bus or even in the supermarket. Previously we have seen a spike in pregnancies during World Cups, but this time it looks like girls being inspired to get into the bedroom. It's not a difficult equation: more sex equals more pregnancies, which equals more babies."
Bieber Fever Fighting Prostate Cancer: 71 year-old Peter Johngren says Justin Bieber is helping him fight prostate cancer. “Justin is so full of life that it somehow counters my thoughts of death. While I may have one foot out the door, Justin has just entered the room and it’s a reminder of how exciting and precious life is. I’ve been into pop music since I was a kid, and Justin is every bit as talented as Elvis. I find a lot of news in general to be quite depressing. Bieber helps me see how great life is, and restores my faith in humanity.” Johngren owns Bieber apparel, his CDs, collectors’ magazine issues, the documentary Never Say Never, concert stubs and Bieber’s autobiography.
Man's Life Full of Ups and Downs: 70-year-old Gary Coleman took his 7,000th ride on the Diamondback roller coaster at Kings Island amusement park near Mason, Ohio on Wednesday. He has spent more than 350 hours on the mile-long coaster since it opened in 2009. Coleman rode the Diamondback 111 times on June 17th.
Kim Kardashian wants kids. She says, “In three years, I see myself moving into acting and designing and I’d like to start a family. In 10 years, I hope to still be designing and in 20 years I’ll be happily living on a farm somewhere far away. I don’t really mean a farm, I mean a huge luxurious villa in Tuscany.”
A thief stole Jillian Michaels' Bentley yesterday. The LAPD caught him after he crashed into a light pole. The man also burglarized Jillian's home.
Katie Holmes fooled Tom Cruise when she moved into her new apartment. A source tells Perez Hilton, “Tom knew that she moved there, but [he thought it was] for different reasons. She said she moved there to drive into the underground garage. There are fewer paparazzi and it's less intrusive for her. It was the first phase of getting everything out of the house, and that's why she was able to say she's moving without giving an indication that she was going to divorce him."
Casper Smart may not be 'father material'. A source tells OK! magazine, ''She's (JLo) finally seeing the reality of the situation. Casper loves the kids but he's not up for any real responsibility. He's happy being the good-time buddy that takes them to the water park ' like a Disneyland Dad ' but he's not going to be hands-on, wipe-the-butt dad. That's just not where he's at in his life and she doesn't blame him. He's only 25 and she doesn't want to rush him into anything. He's just starting his career, and he's been making some big moves as a choreographer, and Jen doesn't want to take him away from that.''
Katy Perry is happy now that she's divorced. Her stylist, Johnny Wujek, says, “She’s so much happier since she and Russell ended. She’s not miserable at all. We’re all really happy for her. It was the right decision that the marriage ended. Life’s good and her career is killing it. She’s a free woman and she can do whatever she wants. She loves children. We were talking about the future and kids recently. When the time’s right, she’ll think about becoming a mother.”
Kelly Clarkson prefers Nashville over L.A.. She says, “When people complain about living in Los Angeles, I’m, like, 'Why do you?' Even though I’m a pop singer, I really have more the life of a country singer. People act like there’s this one set of rules to follow to be a pop star, and, I think, 'Well, you say I’m a pop star, so maybe that’s not true.'”
Justin Bieber is filming his tour. He plans to release the footage as a movie.
Taylor Swift spent Independence Day on a Massachusetts beach with Patrick Schwarzenegger. He Tweeted: ''Had such an amazing day. Best 4th of July I could ask for. Hope everyone had a great day! (sic)''
Carrie Underwood says the best thing about being cheated on is 'you get to go and be awesome'. 'I've been cheated on, it's not that bad. You get to go and be awesome. You get to be like, 'You know what I'm better and you become stronger.' His friends told me, they're terrible friends.''
Elton John has been dancing in the shower. He says, “I’ve got dance music on most mornings when I’m in the shower. Lately I’ve been listening to The 2 Bears, they’ve remixed Sad, one of the songs on the Elton Vs Pnau album. It’s the second single so I was pleased they picked up on it. There’s a fabulous track called Self Control on the Scissor Sisters album, which has definitely been heard in the shower. And I like Hot Chip. There is so much great music in this genre.”
