Odd Reaction to Oscar Nomination
Oscar nominations came out bright and early, and more than one announcement shocked the room on Tuesday morning. When last year's best actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence announced Brad Pitt's "Moneyball" co-star, Jonah Hill, as a nominee for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, a rumble could be heard throughout the room. It should not have come as a surprise to the audience, since Hill was nominated for a supporting actor Golden Globe as well, but the strange reaction was noticeable during the telecast.
Perhaps it also had something to do with the omission of Albert Brooks, who was overlooked for his "Drive" performance and didn't let the occasion go unnoticed. "And to the Academy: "You don't like me. You really don't like me," Brooks wrote on Twitter.
A few other announcements elicited reactions from the crowd, proving this morning's list was not entirely as expected. Rooney Mara, a dark horse in the race, was nominated for best actress, which created a surprised murmur in the room (largely from journalists covering the nominations). The room also gasped at the nomination of Melissa McCarthy for best supporting actress for "Bridesmaids," perhaps since she was previously snubbed at the Golden Globes. The loudest cheers of the morning came for nominations garnered by "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," with their nods for best film and Max von Sydow as best supporting actor.
Vanessa Paradis Speaks About Split Rumor
Vanessa Paradis recently spoke out about her rumored split from longtime boyfriend Johnny Depp. Neither Depp nor Paradis has publicly acknowledged what many folks suspect -- that their relationship is kaput.
Paradis spoke with radio station Europe 1. E! Online quotes her as saying, "You know, when I eat three peas, I'm pregnant. When I visit a city, I'm buying a house. In the winter I separate, in the summer I marry. It's been 15 years since I've been getting married every year. In addition I have to answer all these rumours!"
Source on Demi Moore Hospitalization: She Appeared to Be "Suffering From a Seizure"
Demi Moore had quite the scare last night.
A female friend was at Moore's home when the actress started "shaking" and otherwise "acting like she was suffering from a seizure," a source familiar with the Los Angeles Fire Department's incident report tells E! News.
The friend then called 911 and, about 30 minutes after paramedics arrived, they determined that Moore should be taken to the hospital.
Which brings us to today.
After being hospitalized, the Margin Call star opted to seek further professional help for exhaustion and to "improve her overall health," Moore's rep said in a statement. "She looks forward to getting well and is grateful for the support of her family and friends."
Sources who saw Moore as recently as last week tell E! News that the actress has been looking increasingly thin, and we hear that friends were concerned about her weight.
Moore's rep confirmed that the star has dropped out of the Linda Lovelace biopic Lovelace, in which she had been cast as feminist icon Gloria Steinem.
Cynthia Nixon Goes Bald!
Miranda's red locks are gone, gone, gone!
Cynthia Nixon debuted a bald, shaved head Tuesday during an appearance on Live! With Kelly.
The Sex and the City star's striking new look wasn't an arbitrary style decision. The actress, 45, subjected herself to the extreme buzzcut for her upcoming starring stage role it Wit-- the award-winning drama about a poetry professor, named Vivian Bearing, who battles cancer. Nixon herself battled breast cancer in 2006, and now serves as an ambassador or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Whitney Houston calls claims she's broke 'ridiculous'
There's been a rumor bouncing about that Whitney Houston's bank accounts are not as loftily stocked as they supposedly once were.
Radar Online has cited an anonymous, exclusive source who calls Houston "flat broke," saying that her "fortune is gone"
The loose-lipped insider alleges that "music industry heavy hitters are supporting her," and that while she should have "Mariah Carey money," the 48-year-old singer/actress has had to call to ask to borrow $100.
"She might be homeless if not for people saving her," the source said.
But while this individual may find her to be "broke as joke," Houston isn't laughing at the allegations.
Her rep tells CNN in a statement that the reports are "totally false and ridiculous. She just made a movie with Jordin Sparks – 'Sparkle.'"
In case you didn't know, "People get paid to make movies. [Houston's] not broke."
