Anthony Bourdain Slams Paula Deen After Diabetes Announcement
No reservations is right.
Anthony Bourdain isn't done criticizingPaula Deen. The celeb chef and No Reservations star, who has bashed Deen's calorie-bomb recipes in the past, made an obvious dig at the Food Network star on Twitter Tuesday.
Shortly after Deen, 64, confirmed she has type 2 diabetes, Bourdain wrote, "Thinking of getting into the leg-breaking business, so I can profitably sell crutches later." A bit later, Bourdain shot down a headline provided by TMZ regarding the feud: "For the record: Never called anybody a 'diabetic scam artist.' TMZ's words. Not mine."
On The Today Show Tuesday, Deen -- famous for her cooking up sugary, fatty, deep-fried Southern concoctions on her TV shows and in cookbooks -- revealed that she was diagnosed with the disease three years ago, and is now a paid spokesperson for Novo Nordisk, which treats the disease.
Bourdain has blasted Deen in the past as the "most dangerous person to America" who is "proud of the fact that her food is f---ing bad for you."
Deen retorted at the time that Bourdain should "get a life."
Betty White wasn't the only star to get a special birthday message from Barack Obama.
On Tuesday, New Girl star Zooey Deschanel, 32, tweeted that she was "so excited" to receive a birthday letter from the President of the United States, 50.
"As you celebrate this special occasion with your family and friends, please know I am grateful for all you have done to encourage and support young women who are making a difference across our country," Barack wrote. "I hope your day is filled with love and laughter, and I wish you all the best for good health and happiness in the year ahead."
Deschanel, who shares a birthday with White, 90, and First Lady MichelleObama, 48, also received well-wishes from her favorite author, Judy Blume, 73.
Though Barack couldn't attend the actress' party, Deschanel jokingly tweeted: "It's okay. I get it. I would go to Michelle Obama's birthday instead of mine, too."
KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) — Even though Jennifer Hudson has dropped more than 80 pounds, the singer and actress said she would have no problem gaining weight for Hollywood if the proper movie role comes her way.
"When I do films, it has to be led by something through me — like my passion for it," Hudson said before a book signing in suburban Atlanta on Wednesday. "I just don't want to hop into anything. So if I commit myself to something, then it'll be worth it no matter what character it is."
Last week, Hudson released her book, "I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down." The book touches on how she dealt with her weight issues throughout her career before she lost the extra pounds.
In it, Hudson — who is both a Grammy and Oscar winner — also talked about how she turned down the lead role in the 2009 film "Precious." The role ended up going to Gabourey Sidibe, who was nominated for an Oscar for playing an obese 16-year-old girl who had an abusive mother, an incestuous father and faced extreme poverty.
"I felt it was too graphic for me at the time," she said Wednesday. "It's something I didn't want to do at the time, but I would gain weight in a heartbeat. I have no issues with that at all."
Hudson is a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers and wants to remain physically fit along with her fiance David Otunga, who has recently been wrestling for the World Wrestling Entertainment. They both want to set an early example of staying in shape for their 2-year-old son.
"We really didn't realize how important health was until we were adults," she said. "We wanted to make sure we set an example for our son. He's health conscious, and I am health conscious."
Hudson, who first earned fame as an "American Idol" finalist, won a Grammy for her self-titled album and a supporting actress Oscar for her role in "Dreamgirls."
NEW YORK — Actor Mark Wahlberg has apologized for asserting that he would have stopped terrorists from flying an airliner into New York's World Trade Center on Sept. 11 if he had been on the plane.
The star of the film "Contraband" issued his apology Wednesday after comments he made to Men's Journal drew criticism.
He told an interviewer in the February issue that had he been on American Airlines Flight 11 with his children "it wouldn't have went down like it did." Terrorists flew the plane with 92 people aboard into the north tower on Sept. 11, 2001.
In his apology, Wahlberg said to speculate was "ridiculous to begin with." He said that to suggest he "would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible."
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Johnny Depp's 14-year romance with French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis has hit the rocks, People magazine claimed on Wednesday, and the couple are living largely separate lives.
In a cover story for this week's issue of People called "Love Gone Wrong", the celebrity magazine quoted several unnamed sources as saying the pair's relationship is nearing an end.
The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star, 48, and Paradis, 39, never married but have been together since 1998 and have two children. They divide their time between France and the United States.
People magazine noted that the pair have not appeared on the red carpet together for more than a year, missing both the Cannes film festival in May 2011 and the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills on Sunday, where Depp was a presenter.
"According to multiple sources....(they) are all but officially finished," People said.
Depp's representatives did not return calls for comment on the People story, which hits newsstands on Friday.
LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - The CW ordered up a diverse trio of pilots Wednesday, giving the go-ahead to projects based on the "Green Arrow" comic-book character and Candace Bushnell's "Sex and the City" prequel book, along with an adaptation of the 1980s television series "Beauty and the Beast."
"Arrow" will be an hour-long drama based on DC Comics ' "Green Arrow," and promises a "modern retelling" of the comic-book legend. Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg will write and executive-produce, via Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
"The Carries Diaries," meanwhile, is based on Candace Bushnell's novel and imagines a young Carrie Bradshaw coming of age in the 1980s, "asking her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan."
Amy Harris is on board to write and executive-produce.
"Beauty and the Beast," meanwhile, is loosely based on the CBS series starring Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton, will deliver "a modern day romantic love story with a procedural twist." Jennifer Levin ("Without a Trace," "Felicity") and Sherri Cooper ("Brothers and Sisters") will write and executive-produce.
