 The school year is starting back up, and if you're a parent, we've got a list that might help you out this year.  "Reader's Digest" talked to a bunch of different principals.  Here are the eight things they wish every parent knew.

  #1.)  When You Say Your Child Would Never Lie to You, You're Being Naïve.  A lot of the time, straight-A students and kids who never get in trouble are the ones who DO lie when they make a mistake.

 --Because they don't want their parents to know they're not perfect.

#2.)  He Knows More About Your Private Life Than You Think.  Kids talk a LOT, and one principal admitted that he ends up knowing WAY too much about some of the parents . . . including what their money issues are, and how often they fight. 

 #3.)  If There's a Problem, Talk to the Teacher First.  Another principal said his biggest pet peeve is when parents go straight to HIM to complain, without talking to the teacher first.

  #4.)  He KNOWS Some of the Teachers Suck.  But even if he's planning to FIRE them, he probably can't say anything about it for legal reasons. 

  #5.)  Bullies Aren't Usually Expelled.  According to one principal, quote, "We suspend them again and again, but it's very tough to expel a student.  The truth is, they have a right to an education."

 #6.)  Kids Are Pretty Easy to Deal With.  It's the PARENTS who are tough, because they're constantly trying to solve their kids' problems for them.

  #7.)  If You Want to Talk, Make an Appointment.  Or at least go to their OFFICE.  Principals hate it when parents try to have a "quick" conversation about their kid during a school play or a sporting event.

 #8.) The Smartest Kids Aren't Necessarily the Teacher's "Favorites."  Most teachers value hard work more than they value someone's IQ.

ROSIE O’DONNELL SECRETLY GOT HITCHED!

 Rosie O’Donnell is married! The former talk show host announced yesterday that she and fiancée Michelle Rounds secretly tied the knot back in June. The couple, who announced their engagement in December 2011, exchanged vows on June 9. They had initially planned to get hitched this month, but bumped up the wedding after Rounds was diagnosed with desmoid tumors, a rare disease that required surgery. While Rounds is now on the road to recovery, O’Donnell, 50, suffered her own health scare a couple of weeks ago. She had a heart attack and had to have a stent inserted into one of her arteries. ROBIN ROBERTS ANNOUNCES DATE OF MED. LEAVE!

Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts yesterday announced the date she will begin her medical leave from the show. Roberts’ last day on-air will be this Friday, August 31. She will then take an extended leave of absence to treat her myelodysplastic syndrome (commonly called "MDS"). Beginning on Monday, Sept. 3, the 51-year-old Roberts will start preparations to undergo a bone-marrow transplant. She says she got MDS because of complications from her breast cancer treatment five years ago. [See yesterday’s About Last Night morning for audio.]

LINDSAY OFFICIALLY A THEFT SUSPECT!

Lindsay Lohan’s in trouble again. Law enforcement source tell TMZ that the troubled actress is now formally a suspect in the theft of $100,000 worth of watches and sunglasses. Lindsay was at the Hollywood Hills home of Sam Magid a week ago and after she left, Sam called the LAPD to report that items had been stolen. Apparently, Lindsay and her assistant Gavin Doyle are both suspects in the theft. The odd thing is, Sam later recanted his story and now says nothing was taken. But sources say cops are not dropping the investigation because they believe they have independent witnesses who can confirm Lindsay and Gavin did indeed pilfer some goods.

Sabrina Bryan has been named the 13th contestant on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars. The 27-year-old Cheetah Girls star won the “viewer’s choice” spot. She beat out fashion expert/TV host Carson Kressley, 42, and Disney Channel star Kyle Massey, 20, in the fan vote. Bryan originally competed on season five of the show and came in 6th place. This time around, she will be paired with dancing pro Louis Van Amstel.

Prince Harry is still dealing with the aftermath of his naked picture scandal. The 27-year-old British royal has reportedly frozen his Facebook account, which he kept under a pseudonym. He was apparently advised to go offline until things calm down. As of yesterday, Prince Harry was set to report back to his Royal Air Force Wattisham base. Harry, who is a helicopter pilot, will have formal interviews with his superiors, who will ultimately decide how to reprimand him for the scandal. Last week, naked photos of Harry partying in Las Vegas were made public, sending shockwaves through the royal family.

• NBC’s The New Normal hasn’t even aired yet, but already one TV station in Utah is not a fan. NBC Utah affiliate KSL-TV has pulled the sitcom from its fall lineup. It called the series, about a gay couple and their surrogate, “inappropriate on several dimensions.” GLAAD president Herndon Graddick released a statement criticizing the decision saying, “While audiences, critics and advertisers have all supported LGBT stories, KSL is demonstrating how deeply out of touch it is with the rest of the country.” The show, starring Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells, debuts on Sept. 11 on all other NBC channels.
•  Former SNL cast member Abby Elliott will appear in a multi-episode arc on the upcoming season of How I Met Your Mother. She will play Janeane, "the craziest girl the HIMYM gang has ever encountered."
