COMPOSER MARVIN HAMLISCH DIES

Famed composer Marvin Hamlisch died Monday in Los Angeles at the age of 68. Hamlisch, who composed scores for more than 40 films including Ordinary People and Sophie’s Choice, collapsed and passed away following a short illness, according to his spokesperson. Hamlisch is one of the few stars who have earned an EGOT (an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony). He actually won three Oscars, two for The Way We Were and one for The Sting, as well as four Grammys, six Emmys and a Tony Award for 1975’s A Chorus Line. The musical also earned Hamlisch a Pulitzer Prize.

NIELSEN CAUGHT DRUNK IN PUBLIC BUT SHE SAYS THERE’S NO NEED TO WORRY!

Looks like Brigitte Nielsen needs a return trip to Celebrity Rehab. The Danish actress was photographed in Los Angeles over the weekend looking drunk and disoriented. The pictures show a plastered Brigitte drinking vodka and smoking cigarettes and witnesses say at one point she collapsed on the grass and vomited. Nielsen has battled alcohol for years, but seemed to be doing better after going on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab in 2008. At the time she said she felt “like a new-born person.” But yesterday, Brigitte released a statement insisting fans don’t have to worry about her.  “Looking at the pictures I can understand the level of worrying, but I can assure everyone that there is no cause for alarm. I have been on the road working non-stop for such a long time, fulfilling my professional commitments, shooting shows around the world with all the pressure that comes with it," she told Radar. “That combined with major health issues in my family drove me to the unfortunate circumstances that you can see on the pictures. At that moment in time, I felt like I needed a moment to myself, in a park. The vodka came about as a desperate move to try to release some pressure and is under no circumstances an indication of how I lead my life on a day to day basis."

The Osbourne family fight with NBC isn’t going away. On Monday, Sharon Osbourne revealed she quit America’s Got Talent because they fired her son Jack from the upcoming reality show Stars Earn Stripes after he announced he had multiple sclerosis. Sharon claimed they were discriminating against her son, a charge NBC publicly denied. The network claimed they hadn’t had a signed deal with Jack when he went public with his diagnosis. Well, Jack is firing back at the network, writing on Twitter, “Bull-f**king-s**t. #boycottNBC.” He then added, “I took part in a 16 hr challenge over 30 miles with a 40lbs ruck on my back in Jan. I had MS then. Don’t tell me wot physically demanding is.”

OHIO MAN ARRESTED TRYING TO BRING GUNS INTO DARK KNIGHT RISES SCREENING!

A man trying to smuggle guns into a screening of The Dark Knight Rises was arrested in Ohio over the weekend. Authorities say the man, identified as 37-year-old Scott Smith, was carrying a satchel filled with guns, ammunition and knives when he went to a 10 pm screening Saturday. The manager of the movie theater became suspicious and alerted an off-duty cop who was working security. The cop searched the bag, found the arsenal, and called police. Smith, who did not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, was arrested without incident.

Over the weekend, Cassie Lambert and Pete Scalettar, two producers of the ABC show, tied the knot in Malibu, CA, with Bachelor host Chris Harrison officiating the ceremony. JEFFERSONS STAR DIED OF LUNG CANCER!

According to the El Paso Texas Medical Examiner, The Jeffersons star Sherman Hemsley died last month from lung cancer. The Post Mortem Report listed the primary cause of death as a complication resulting from a mass on the actor’s lung. Hemsley was reportedly advised to get chemo and radiation before his death He was 74 when he passed.

● Jennifer Lawrence is a huge reason The Hunger Games was so successful and that will soon be reflected in her bank account. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence is close to a deal for the film’s sequel Catching Fire which will pay her in the $10 million range. The deal will also give her a portion of the film’s profits, which means she could earn more depending on the box office performance. She reportedly got just $500,000 plus bonuses for the first film.

● Sacha Baron Cohen has sold a new project to Paramount, described as a James Bond-style comedy.  The film follows a 007-type spy forced to go on the run with his moronic long lost brother, who is a soccer hooligan. Cohen is expected to play the brother, not the spy.

● Reno 911 star Tom Lennon will guest star on the season premiere of How I Met Your Mother. ● Wilmer Valderrama has landed a recurring role on Fox’s Raising Hope. Griffith’s real-life mom, Tippi Hedren, will also appear on the show’s October 2^nd season premiere, playing Sabrina’s dead grandmother, who appears in a video reading her last will and testament.
