What To Buy In August from yahoo.com
Backpacks. You don’t need to be a student to need a backpack. When the back to school sales rev up – and run from this month well into September – all of us can find deals on things we need. Backpacks, for example, are drastically reduced this month. You can even find high quality, fashionable backpacks such as this one from Nautica on sale for half price – just $39.99 – at Macy’s.
Lawnmowers. By the time August rolls around most Americans have their mower situation in the bag. To lure customers, home improvement and department stores will lower their prices by 20 percent or more in August. This is also true of swing sets, grills and other merchandise related to summer. At Sears, you can buy a Craftsman 190cc Low-Wheel Rear Push Bag Mower for $239.99, $40 less than its regular price.
MP3 players. Including iPods, are a good deal this month as retailers push out older models to make room for newer ones. New tech like this typically arrives in stores around September so that shoppers have time to check them out before they begin their Christmas shopping in earnest. And if you’re specifically looking for a non-Apple product, the deals can be pretty amazing. Right now you can buy a Sansa Fuze+ 8 GB MP3 Player for $63.29, a staggering $26.70 off its regular price of $89.99, on Amazon.
Computers. For the past five years or so, laptops have become a required back-to-school items for not only college students but for some high school kids. The competition for customers leads to some excellent sales, and some stores will throw in freebies, such as printers and software. For instance, you can get the Apple MacBook Air at Best Buy for $839.99 – $160 off the regular price.
Furniture. If you’re looking for a futon or some sensible shelving solutions for a guest room or den, this is your month. Many retailers mark down items that they deem to be “dorm room friendly,” but that doesn’t mean these items are for college kids only. Right now you can get the Baja Convert-a-Couch and Sofa Bed at Wal-Mart for $299, down from the regular price of $349.
Fashion accessories. Fall is coming, so retailers carrying belts and scarves are looking to move these brightly colored items to make room for the darker, cold weather designs on the way. You can find great deals on these items at places such as J. Crew and Banana Republic. For instance, check out this Chevron Tie Belt from J. Crew for just $15, down from the regular price of $24.50
Sleepwear for women. The best deals you’re going to see on lightweight sleepwear tend to happen in August. The cold weather is coming, and with it comes new styles in heavier material such as flannel and fleece. Now is the time when retailers want to move their breezy summer sleepwear out the door. For instance, you can get a Simply Vera Wang Morning Mist Shirred Chemise at Kohl’s for $21, 50 percent off its regular price.
Who Let The Dog Out: A Chihuahua recently rescued a 5 and 8 year-old girl after they got lost in a Newman, Georgia forest. Carvin Young's Chihuahua "Bell" picked up the girls' scent and began running until she reached them. The girls were found and not hurt. They play with Bell everyday.
Liberty Ross and Rupert Sanders are trying to reconcile. A source tells Hollywoodlife.com, “Liberty let it be known in no uncertain terms that Rupert can’t direct the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. They are trying to work things out after he was caught having an affair, and that is one of the sticking points. She just doesn’t want him to ever work with Kristen again. Rupert is obviously disappointed because Snow White and the Huntsman was his directorial debut, and he had hoped on building on that with a follow-up after some decent reviews. But he knows his actions were inexcusable, and he’s going to have to bite the bullet and listen to his wife on this one. Kristen, as the film’s lead, will get preference over Rupert and Universal will just find another director.''
Women may boycott Kristen Stewart's future films. A source tells the Sun, “Kristen’s the most hated woman in Hollywood. Female moviegoers have been looking for a reason not to like her and now they have it. Lots of Rob’s huge army of female fans will boycott her films. It’s going to be a long road for her to come back, professionally as well as personally.”
Summit Entertainment, the studio behind ‘Twilight’, is concerned about Kristen Stewart’s cheating scandal. A source tells Hollywoodlife.com, “Summit is very scared with how things will turn out. They are certainly putting on a strong face. They are very scared on how the fans will react and if they will have great box office. They expect all the fans will see it once and not come back for repeat performances. Summit is thinking about doing separate press conferences and interviews for Rob and Kristen. So they don’t have to be anywhere near each other if they don’t want to be. It’s an option and is being discussed. They want to have a zero tolerance policy on any questions geared towards the affair.”
Kristen Stewart is going to play Peyton Loftis in 'Lie Down In Darkness. Describing the film, Vulture (site) says, “As part of a dysfunctional and disintegrating family, Peyton is constantly compared to her crippled sister, Maudie, and her intense physical beauty makes her the object of her frigid mother’s jealous hatred and the target of her father’s incestuous, alcoholic lust.”

Ghostbusters 3 is in the works. Dan Akroyd says, “We're working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I'm confident we'll be in production in the next year. It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one.”

PRANK CALL SENDS SWAT TEAMS TO MILEY’S HOME!
SWAT teams descended on Miley Cyrus’ LA home Wednesday night for what turned out to be a bogus call. According to TMZ, the LAPD received a 911 call of a reported home invasion with shots fired. A chopper and officers with high powered weapons were dispatched to the home, only to discover it empty, with no signs of a crime. Officials believe the call came from a “911 abuser,” who pulls a prank called “Swatting,” in which he tries to trick emergency responders into coming to a home by making up a serious crime.

Looks like John Mayer may have landed himself yet another pop starlet. The singer, who’s dated Taylor Swift and Jessica Simpson, not to mention Jennifer Aniston, was photographed earlier this week leaving the Chateau Marmont Hotel with superstar Katy Perry. Rumors that John and Katy were dating began last month after they were seen grabbing pizza together. They were then spotted at New York’s Soho House on July 19th.

KATHERINE JACKSON REINSTATED AS GUARDIAN/DUPED INTO ARIZONA TRIP!
Katherine Jackson yesterday was reinstated as permanent guardian of Michael’s three children, Paris, Prince and Blanket, with her grandson TJ sharing responsibilities as co-guardian. Meanwhile, Katherine is now claiming she was tricked into traveling to Arizona last month. In a declaration filed as part of her attempt to regain guardianship, Katherine said she was supposed to go on a road trip to New Mexico to see her kids perform, but on July 14th a doctor told her it would be better for her to fly. Believing the doctor worked for her longtime physician, Katherine agreed, but when she got off the plane she discovered she was in Tucson, AZ, where her family put her up in a luxury resort. She said all forms of communication, including the TV, were taken away from her, and when she asked about her grandkids she was told they “were fine.” She had no idea the kids were worried about her, or that they reported her missing. Katherine said, "At the time, I trusted the people I was with to be honest with me."
The Jackson family may be in turmoil, but at least one member has some good news to share. It was announced yesterday that LaToya Jackson will star in a reality show for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network. Life with LaToya will follow the 56-year-old’s day- to-day activities, various business adventures and her relationship with her family. “I am so pleased to be working with television legend Oprah Winfrey and to be a part of the OWN family,” said LaToya. “This will be one of the most exciting adventures of my life.”
Q-In 2011, LaToya competed on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice and was the first contestant ever to have what happen to her? She was fired twice in one season.
SANDERS’ WIFE WON’T LET HIM WORK WITH STEWART AGAIN!
Looks like Rupert Sanders’ fling with Kristen Stewart may have cost him a job. Rupert was expected to direct the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, with Stewart once again starring, but his wife Liberty Ross has put the kibosh on that. According to Radaronline, the couple is “trying to work things out,” but Liberty, “just doesn’t want him to ever work with Kristen again.” “Rupert is obviously disappointed because Snow White and the Huntsman was his directorial debut, and he had hoped on building on that with a follow up,” claims the insider. “But he knows his actions were inexcusable and he’s going to have to bite the bullet and listen to his wife on this one.”

Sofia Vergara has yet to confirm her engagement to longtime boyfriend Nick Loeb, but it looks like her son did it for her. 19-year-old Manoloposted a video from the family’s trip to Mexico last month for Sofia’s 40th birthday, and in it she’s seen descending the Mayan ruin of Chichen Itza with a big diamond ring on her finger. In his commentary, Manolo is heard saying, “once they were to the top of the pyramid, my mother’s longtime boyfriend Nick proposed to her.” Still being secretive with the news, Sofia never actually confirms she said yes.
Ghostbusters fans have been hearing about a possible third movie for a while now, and while Dan Aykroyd says it may start shooting next year, it will be without Bill Murray. “I can tell you he won’t be involved,” Aykroyd told Metro. “It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful move without Bill.” [See Spotlight On for more.]
