"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" made an estimated $37.7 million on Wednesday.
That's the biggest opening day for any movie this year, passing the $34.9
million "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" made in its first day. It
also made $5.5 million at sneak peeks on Tuesday, giving a total of $43.2
million. Compared to the opening for "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,"
however, the the latest movie falls short. "ROTF," which also opened on a
Wednesday (June 24, 2009), made $62 million on its first day and ended up with
$200 million by the end of its first weekend.
The much beloved soap opera, "All My Children" will end its 41-year run on ABC
on Friday, September 23rd. ABC says the show will end "in a manner that respects
the show's legacy and honors its history" and that "final episodes will
celebrate the stories of the families that fans have grown to know and love over
the years." "All My Children" will be replaced a lifestyle/food/talk show called
"The Chew." Chefs Mario Batali, Michael Symon and Carla Hall ("Top Chef"), "What
Not to Wear's" Clinton Kelly and "Dorm Room Diet" author Daphne Oz (the daughter
of Dr. Mehmet Oz) will serve as hosts and discuss cooking, eating, entertaining
and other aspects of foodie culture. It's scheduled to premiere on Monday,
September 26th.
Singer, Aaron Carter, in a current interview in the Australian edition of OK!
magazine, says that Michael Jackson, gave him alcohol and cocaine when Carter
was just 15 years old. Jackson died two years ago this week, and Carter says
that while he misses the king of pop, he also wants to talk about his
relationship with the superstar. While he got to do some amazing stuff with
Michael, he says there was a lot of stuff that Michael did that made him
uncomfortable. "He gave me wine," Carter told the magazine. "I mean, I could
have refused, but I was 15. ... He gave me cocaine. I felt weird about that and
other stuff ... We spoke afterwards, hours and hours, on the phone. I admired
Michael, but his behavior bothered me a lot."
While the tabloids have been saying that "Bachelor" Brad Womack and Emily
Maynard have been split for awhile, Maynard has finally made it official. She
told People magazine that "We're no longer engaged." Maynard will also be
talking about the state of her relationship with Brad with Chris Harrison on
July 11th. Womack released a statement to the press saying simply, "The demise
of our relationship was completely my fault." Emily went on to say that just
because they loved each other, doesn't mean they were meant to be together. At
this point, she just hopes that she and her daughter Ricki can get back to a
normal life.
Wrestler, Macho Man Randy Savage, died from a serious "cardiac event" he
suffered moments before plowing his car into a tree last month. According to
the Pinellas County Medical Examiner Savage suffered from cardiovascular disease
and the deadly "cardiac event" (heart attack) was because of this condition.
So, the heart attack caused him to lose control of his vehicle while driving in
Florida and crash into a tree, not the alcohol or hydrocodone found in his body.
"Time" editor and MSNBC analyst Mark Halperin has been suspended indefinitely by
the network after he called President Barack Obama a "d*ck" on live television.
Mark made the comment on the "Morning Joe" broadcast after his coworkers told
him it was ok to say what he was really feeling because they had a delay button.
Halperin said he thought Obama was "kind of a d*ck yesterday" at the President's
White House news conference where he blamed everyone and corporate jets for the
financial problems of the country. Mark has since profusely apologized for the
comment, but MSNBC enforced the suspension anyway claiming his "comments this
morning were completely inappropriate and unacceptable."
LeVar Burton, who used to host the show, "Reading Rainbow" is urging everyone
use your social media talents and help create a Reading Rainbow flash mob in an
effort to raise literary awareness. In twitter, enter the hashtag
#ReadingRainbowFlashMob, and then HELP KIDS READ...
NBC has formerly announced that all four musician coaches on "The Voice",
Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will definitely
be back next season.
Tiger Woods has picked up an endorsement. He'll be hawking a heat rub used to
relieve muscle and joint pain in Japan. The TV commercial with Woods will debut
nationally in Japan from mid-July. It isn't the first time Woods has promoted
products in Japan. He also appeared in TV commercials for canned iced coffee in
the late 90s.
Tracy Morgan has landed in hot water yet again...this time because he made fun
of "retarded" kids and "cripples in his stand-up show. Morgan was appearing at
a New York comedy club on Saturday when he made comments like..."don't mess with
women who have retarded kids because them young retarded males is strong... they're strong like chimps." He also talked about hooking up with a "cripple" with a prosthetic armT. The Arc, an advocacy group for people with disabilities, is calling on Morgan to apologize immediately.
Jessica is originally from Marietta, GA! I am probably one of the only real "Atlantans" left! I love Atlanta because there is always something going on, and it's just close enough to the beach to get away for a weekend.
