Grammy-nominated singer Phoebe Snow, famous for her 1970s hit "Poetry Man," passed away Tuesday morning from complications of a brain hemorrhage. Snow put her music career on hold for many years to care for her daughter Valerie, who was born in 1975 with severe brain damage. Valerie was not expected to live past her toddler years, but with Phoebe's care she lived to be 31 and passed away in 2007. A private funeral will be held in the next few days.
Prince doesn't want anyone covering his songs or anyone else's songs, for that matter. The singer, appearing on the George Lopez Show, said that he thinks copyright law should be changed so that nobody can remake his hits. It's an amazing statement since covers of Prince songs have become hits in and of themselves, including The Bangles' version of "Manic Monday," Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2U" and Chaka Khan's "I Feel for You."
Beyonce Knowles is being sued for over $100 million by a video game company who claims the singer backed out of a deal to create a game with Beyonce called, "Starpower: Beyonce". According to the documents filed, things went awry during a "crucial moment in the project's development" when Beyonce made "an extortionate demand" for more money -- even though the two sides already had a deal in place. Gate Five claims her move "drove 70 people into unemployment, the week before Christmas" ... and notes that one of the project's backers described her conduct as "morally reprehensible." The company claims it is entitled to the $6.7 mil it invested into the venture -- as well as more than $100 million in profits Gate Five believes it would have earned had Beyonce honored the agreement.

Donnie Wahlberg from New Kids on the Block was able to help a sick fan find a new kidney using Twitter. The fan's best friend tweeted about the girl who was in dire need of a transplant. Donnie retweeted the link to his 183,000 followers, asking for help ... prompting a barrage of phone calls to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where Bobbette Miller was being treated. According to the Boston Herald, the calls yielded SIX matches -- and Bobbette is now scheduled for a transplant in June.

Hubert J. "Hub" Schlafly Jr., a television engineer who aided countless politicians and performers when he helped invent the scrolling public-speaking crutch known as a teleprompter, died April 20th of undisclosed causes at a hospital in Stamford, Conn. He was 91. The first teleprompter was a motorized scroll of paper inside half a suitcase with words printed in half inch letters. The scrolling speed was controlled by a stagehand. The device was introduced in 1950 on the CBS soap opera "The First Hundred Years," and soon was used for all live broadcasts.

A potential juror questioned during the second day of jury selection in Rod Blagojevich's retrial Monday said she wished to be excused from jury duty because it would interfere with the taping of the Oprah Winfrey show, which she planned to attend on May 10th. U.S. District Judge James Zagel and Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar laughed and talked about scheduling the trial so the juror would not be needed that day. All parties agreed to revisit the issue. Others who were excused from jury service included a man who had finally gotten a job after 16 months of unemployment.

Beverly Hills 90210 alum, Ian Ziering, welcomed his first child, a daughter, with wife Erin on Monday. They named their new daughter, Mia Loren Ziering. "Well, it's official, I'm a dad!" Ziering wrote on Facebook. The couple chose a name that started with an M to honor Ziering's late mother, Micki.

Police in North Las Vegas arrested a 40 year old man who they say opened fire on a reality show crew filming in his neighborhood Monday. Carlos Barron got angry because the "Repo Games" van was parked in front of his house. Barron began yelling at the van's occupants from a second-story window and then went outside to demand they move the van, at which point he allegedly struck the driver. Barron then allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired multiple shots at the seven-person crew. No one was injured. When police arrived, Barron had barricaded himself inside his home. After a two hour standoff, Barran tried to sneak out of the house and run away, but he was apprehended. Barron was charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, aiming or discharging a firearm where a person might be in danger and obstructing a police officer.
A police report from Nicolas Cage's arrest earlier this month suggests the actor might have physically harmed his son before he was taken into custody. Cage, who was arrested in New Orleans on April 16th following an alleged physical altercation with his wife, Alice Kim, "fell while holding" their 5-year-old son Ka-El and he scraped his knee. According to Radaronline, a male witness told police that he "observed Mr. Cage pull the male child to the ground by his hand." The police report noted that Cage, 47, was ultimately placed under arrest due to his "manic state, level of intoxication, victim and witness statements" and the fear that "another incident may have occurred" if he wasn't taken into custody.

Jessica is originally from Marietta, GA! I am probably one of the only real "Atlantans" left! I love Atlanta because there is always something going on, and it's just close enough to the beach to get away for a weekend.
