Means, a former American Indian Movement activist who helped lead the 1973 uprising at Wounded Knee, reveled in stirring up attention and appeared in several Hollywood films, died early Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 at his ranch Zzxin Porcupine, S.D., Oglala Sioux Tribe spokeswoman Donna Solomon said. Wounded Knee is up for sale for almost 4 million dollars, but the land itself is only appraised for 7 thousand.  The Oglala Sioux tribe has been trying to purchase this for many years, and it is soon coming into money from a class action lawsuit settlement over mismanaged land royalties by our government (going back about 100 years).  The Oglala should get about $20 Million...but should they have to pay anything for this land?  Isn't it THEIRS already?

The current owner bought this historic South Dakota land back in 1968.  He now lives in Rapid City and wants this land to stay with the Indian Peoples, but will open it up to outsiders if he doesn't get his asking price.  Read the article here.

Can we band together with crowd source funding to purchase for the Oglala?  Wouldn't that be so cool?!  If everybody gave just a dollar, it could be done.

Or is it Wakan Takan's wish for these Indian Peoples to gain new land with less negative energy attached to it?  Sometimes no amount of smudging can clear the air of travesty.  No amount of sweetgrass can pull in the goodness to obliterate the heartache.  Read about the original Wounded Knee Massacre here (back in 1890).

The 1992 film "Thunderheart" addresses events relating to the Wounded Knee uprising of 1973.  It stars Val Kilmer and Sam Shepard, and I believe the character of Leo Fast Elk represents activist Russell Means of AIM (American Indian Movement), or it might more represent Leonard Peltier.  You should most definitely see this film Thunderheart

Russell Means is also an actor in a handful of movies including Last of the Mohicans.  Unfortunately he left us last October.

May the Great Mystery (Wakan Tanka) watch over you today, and I trust it'll be a great one for you.  Washte.
