Cannabis Tax?

Previous Posts

By Jordan Graye

Who'd-a-thunk Pat Robertson would call for legalizing Marijuana?  I say Amen!   (but I wanna know what YOU think!)   Foremost for me, it was a miracle nausea cure during my chemotherapy back in 1979.  I had Hodgekin's Disease and was sentenced to 6 months of chemo.  At that time, they didn't have the wonderful cancer centers they have now where you relax in a recliner, chill on Ativan, then receive your supervised treatment.  No, I went to the doctor's office, had an IV push into my arm, then went home and threw up every 10 minutes for 12 hours. No amount of "nausea medicine" they gave me would ease the wretching, so my physician suggested I smoke pot. Seriously.  He couldn't prescribe it (at the time, Florida had just legalized it for glaucoma), but he definitely encouraged it.  Truly miraculous.

So if marijuana were legal, there'd be a tax, right?  Local and State?  I found myself staring at a Cobb County govt channel the other night, and of course someone was touting how we need to vote for the one cent sales tax over the next 10 years to fund transportation projects.  What will that make it, up to 8% sales tax now?  (this will be on the July 31st ballot).  Uggggg.   I guess what I'm saying is, legalizing Marijuana could ease not only the nausea of a cancer patient, but it could ease the burden of taxation.  And according to Pat Robertson, it would ease the burden of prisons creating hardened criminals who were convicted of only lesser charges of possession.
