We don't need a 1% sales tax so the government can "fix" our traffic problems...we need to learn how to drive, then WE can fix them! Seriously, I bet we could chop off about 10 minutes from our commute if we all REALLY learned how to drive! Like what does YIELD mean? Who has the RIGHT OF WAY? What happens when traffic lights go out? What does MERGE mean? I wonder how some people get their driver's licenses. Driving is a privilege. Let's take responsiblility for it.
Does being able to turn right on red give you the right of way? Hell NO. So don't pull out in front of us and break the flow if you can't gun it and keep up with us...wait til you have a green light. YOU HAVE TIME. We're all so worried we have to rush or we'll be late, but if we just relaxed and trusted we have enough time, then we will. It works like magic.
And merging...OMG. Ok, so if you see a sign that says "lane ends merge (right or left)", then it's YOUR responsibility to safely move into the other lane, it's not my responsibility to let you in...if you use your blinker in plenty of time, then of course I will certainly let you in. But if you barge in and cut me off, I slam on my breaks which ripples thru many cars behind me and can cause a lot of trouble. And I let rude driving behavior change my personality into a raging lunatic...because normally I'm just a plain lunatic.
And the 'slow lane" is to the far right. We're supposed to pass on the left for a reason (less blind spots when changing lanes).
What traffic rants do YOU have? I'm sure I"m leaving out a ton...and wouldn't it be cool if we took responsibility for the mess we make daily in traffic, and not rely on govt using our hard earned money to "fix" it. I'm just sayin'
Want more about the July 31st Traffic Referendum? Check it out here. The AJC did a great job on this one...just stuff we need to know, like even what the wording on the ballot will look like.
Happy Trails, and thanks for listening (to my rant as well as to the station)!
