The laws of physics usually dictate that more control equals a bigger release...release>control. I see it in my every day life when I tell myself over and over that I must only eat my chicken breast and broccoli for dinner, but finally after about 3 days I say to heck with it and binge on not only the chicken and broccoli, but the tortilla chips, mashed potatos and ice cream in one sitting...and we're talking a pint of ice cream GONE. So I can't help but think this would apply to anything else anyONE else is trying to "control."
The Aurora Colorado movie theatre shootings sicken me, and I wish we were not back in the "dark ages" where even church sanctuaries weren't safe, but here we are. Just like millions of Americans exercising their second amendment right, this 24 year old kid probably obtained his arsenal legally...went through all the correct channels with proper ID and the works (I don't know this for sure). I don't know that creating tougher channels to obtain artillery would stop anyone from acting out their rage...it might slow them down, take more time to execute, but they'd get it done at some point in time.
Some people are intensely sick for a long time, and those close to them didn't pick up on the signals, but some people just SNAP. And while we don't want these people to have guns, it's their right. How do you regulate this? Anyone who wants to purchase a gun has to undergo psychiatric examination? Maybe. But that starts to look like Big Brother, and opens a whole 'nother can of worms.
The pint of ice cream sitting on the shelf isn't a monster and didn't put the pounds on me...my act of eating the whole thing makes me a porker. So be it with guns. Found a gun control article with some pros and cons and some other judicial links on this page. I personally don't own a gun and have an aversion to them. But I respect the 2nd amendment of our Constitution.
Thanks for listening while you work hard and ponder heavy thoughts...Know You're Loved -- Jg
