Our society is keeping the plastic surgeons in business with its constant bending of the truth, out and out lies, and a disdain for claiming personal responsibility. Yes, the white lies for the greater good seem to be in a different category...here's a great article addressing lying/cheating as a threat to democracy. In the wake of the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal, I found this very interesting. Then I had to look at my own truth bending tactics. Is it OK to omit certain pieces of info for my better good? When I rationalize that as trivial at my middle class worker/mom level, then I can't complain about others regardless of their level (politics, CEOs, etc). It all starts on the cellular level. What "white lies" do you tell your kids? Your partner? Your boss or co-workers? More important, what white lies (or bigger) do you tell YOURSELF?
