How Many MPG?

It can pay to do the math when comparing new- and used-car values. It's not just the sticker price but interest rates and dealer incentives that figure into deals.

Nice to see gas prices dropping.  The lowest I've seen it in my area (Smyrna) is $3.18 for regular, but if you click on the traffic tab on the homepage we have a list of lowest gas prices in the metro.  So it's taking a little less to fill up my tank lately, thank goodness.  Now on the other end, how well is my car using the gas?  Not getting the best mileage these days, but my car is OLD!  Got it used in 2003 (it's a 2000) and it's still going strong...just not very efficiently.  I always wondered about the stated MPG ratings on new cars.  Can the car company just flat out lie about how many miles per gallon this or that new car can get?  My cars NEVER got the same mpg as the dealer said they would.

Well, it looks like Kia and Hyundai are guilty, and now maybe FORD is, too!  Check it out here.

Dayum.  We have two Fords at our house.  Granted, one is a gas guzzler (to pull a horse trailer), and the other an Escape.  But I was looking into a more economical model that would get outstanding gas mileage...so now, I'm just on hold since I'm not sure if I'd really be getting better mpg or not.  If I'm going to drive off a fiscal cliff, I thought it might be better in a 34/40 mpg car...

Maybe Santa has a better way to ride!

Happy Hannukah, Merry Christmas, and may you get the most mileage possible out of everything today! xoxo
