My jaw dropped when I heard the Atlanta City Council wanted to give themselves a raise...well actually, it didn't drop until I heard the %52 number. Yeah, in this economic climate the council wants to boost their annual salary by %52.
Now I've never been a city council memeber, but it seems steeper than the North face of Stone Mountain to go %52 higher, especially when other city departments haven't had raises, and in fact have had to slash jobs (Police, Fire, etc). And these other departments without raises are FULL-TIME jobs. Is this a joke? They will VOTE on their own %52 pay raise at 1pm today.
I don't live in the city so not sure this directly affects me, but just thought it was outrageous. If I knew more about the actual job of a city council memeber the raise might make more sense. Check out this article, and if you have more info, please let me know! People should be paid fairly, but maybe annual incremental raises make more sense?
I'm hoping you get a %100 raise today! Know You're Loved, and thanks for taking us to work with you. xoxo JG
