The only prom I went to wasn't even my own... my really good friend who was a year ahead of me at the same highschool took me to his Jr/Sr prom when I was in 10th grade. We met up with prom couples for dinner at The Coach and Six restaurant (native Atlantans will remember this former fixture at Peachtree and 26th) before heading to the Peachtree Plaza in a Pacer for the prom. (Anyone remember the Pacer car? OR was it a Gremlin?) Anyway, it was so exciting for me, but I had nothing to wear. My mom could only spend a little on a new dress and we found a great, simple, sweet dress at JCP! And we didn't order from the catalog! I think it cost $30.00 back in 1977. WOW. And how much is spent on a prom dress these days??? Geeeeeeeeez Louise, no way. How much did YOU spend on your child's prom experience? And is it worth it? Can they have just as many fantastic memories without the extras? Maybe..Maybe not...whatcha think?
