I triple dog dare ya to read an interesting article about Jean Shepherd, author and narrator of A Christmas Story…TBS will air the marathon movie watching at 8pm Christmas Eve (THIS SATURDAY)!!
It’s an article from ’08 (or ’09) and was written by what was one of my favorite musicians at that point, Donal Fagan of Steely Dan. I had the chance to interview Donald Fagan in 2010, and found him to be a bit rude. Really turned me off to him. I swore I’d never interview my favorite artist again because I don’t want reality to blow them off the pedestal. But what I found interesting was he experienced the same thing with Jean Shepherd! His feelings for Mr. Shepherd changed from the time he was 12 growing up in New Jersey and thought Shepherd was God’s gift, to the time he saw Jean live at Rutgers University, and …well, let’s say the mask was ripped off. Very interesting article, though, if you get a chance to read, please do.
I’m still looking for “It’s a Wonderful Life” on the tube…I think NBC owns it now? Probably Xmas Eve on Channel 11. Turner Classic Movies has a nice Christmas Eve line up as well.
