A laptop computer with Trump Tower floor plans, information related to the Hillary Clinton email investigation and other national security details was stolen Thursday from a Secret Service agent’s vehicle, according to multiple reports.
The theft was first reported by the New York Daily News. Along with the laptop, unidentified “sensitive” documents were snatched along with coins and a black bag with the Secret Service insignia on it, the newspaper reported, citing unidentified sources.
The bag and coins were later recovered by police, but the laptop remained missing on Friday. The computer does not have any sensitive information on it related to the White House or any foreign leaders, sources told the New York Daily News.
Unidentified law enforcement sources told WNBC that the laptop is encrypted. A keycode is needed to get into the computer, and the device’s memory is automatically wiped after two unsuccessful attempts to log in.
Authorities did not immediately know whether the Secret Service agent was targeted.
"The Secret Service is very heavily involved and, citing national security, there's very little we have on our side," a police source told the Daily News. "It's a very big deal. … There's data on there that's highly sensitive.”
