Feed The Children will deliver five semi tractor-trailers full of food and essentials to help 2,000 families during events on Tuesday Jan. 24, Wednesday Jan. 25 andThursday, Jan. 26.
Feed The Children partner agencies participating in the events pre-identified families receiving the boxes. Each family will receive a 25-pound box of food, a 10-pound box of personal care items and a box of Avon products. The boxes are designed to help a family of four for up to one week.
The distribution is part of Feed The Children’s Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, which has helped more than 330,000 families across the country since it began in 2009.
More than one in three children living in Atlanta (33.6 percent) is considered impoverished. The number of children living in poverty in Georgia (1,727,475) could fill the Georgia Dome more than 24 times.
"Our Americans Feeding Americans project continues to help those adversely affected by the economy,” said Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children. "A lot of these people considered themselves middle class just a few years ago and are now unable to provide for their families. This distribution will provide relief for them at a crucial time.”
