As you look on the calendar, you see a big star next to your child's birthday. First, you have a moment of excitement that they are growing up, but then you're hit with, "What should I do for his/her birthday?".
As always, you have options galore. You can have a small gathering at your home with a few close friends or you can throw a birthday extravaganza with professional balloon artists, circus acts, petting zoo, magician, clowns and more. But realistically, what makes sense for your budget?
My youngest recently celebrated her 4th birthday and after attending a few big events (including being a part of a wedding party
), I was on a strict budget for her birthday. Even though I was on a strict budget, I didn't wanted to sacrifice fun or entertainment. I turned to one of my neighbors who has 3 kids of her own and she suggested Build-A-Bear Workshop
I've been there on many occasions and never left spending less, probably double of what I had anticipated. Knowing that, I was worried it would happen again at a party and now I'd have to multiply those extra costs with the number of guests.
Once I found out that the party could be as little as $10 per person, I was had. Plus, the whole process of scheduling the party to the actual party day was seamless and easy as 1-2-3. In order to ensure your own positive experience, here are some tips that made the whole process easy and budget-friendly:1. Reservation
. I went on the website and clicked on "PARTY". Then I located "Schedule A Party". You choose location, date, time and add how many guests. You also put the amount per guest which is as low as $10. Note: You do need at least 6 guests to throw a party.
If you have a no-show for your party, you will still be responsible for paying for 6 bears.2. Discount.
Once you put all your information to confirm your party. If you put a $10 per guest amount in, they will give you the option to increase your amount to $15 per guest, but they will also discount $15 off your party total. I noticed that it goes up in $5 increments, so if you initially had $15, they will offer you a $20 discount if you increase your amount to $20. Not bad for saving money at your party!3. Deposit.
You do need to put down a $50 deposit. The deposit amount will be subtracted from your final party total.4. Cancellation.
Should you decide to cancel the party for unforeseen reasons, including "I just didn't feel like it", you have 48 hours prior to your scheduled party to cancel and your deposit will be immediately refunded. Most other birthday party places will take your deposit or some sort of fee since you've reserved that spot. Here, they just need a 48 hours advance notice online which is perfect if your birthday boy or girl gets sick last-minute.5. Confirmation.
Once you hit the confirm button, you will receive an email confirming your party and within a few days, a store manager will call confirming all the details, including how you would like to allocate the funds from your set amount. If you choose a $10 amount, the kids will only get a bear, but if you choose $15 or more, they can have a larger bear selection or they could get a $10 bear and accessory that is $5 or less. You can decide how it should be spent.6. Day of Party.
You get a party leader, activities, free group photo, and a free autographed bear for the guest-of-honor. Plus, your guests will leave with a coupon for $5 off their purchase over $25 or more (here is a Build-A-Bear Workshop coupon
you can use for a limited time). With free stuff and coupons, everyone leaves very happy.
My daughter's party was a success. The party leader was really good at staying on budget which was $15 per child. The kids had fun participating in all the activities and they left smiling with their new bears. I also received my $15 discount which made my total less than $100 for the entire party. If I had gone anywhere else, I would have spent at least $250 on location, $100 on food and $50 or more on party favors. I saved a ton and more importantly, all the kids had fun.
If you're looking to have a budget-friendly birthday party, you must look into Build-A-Bear Workshop parties
. Parties can be as low as $60 for 6 children or $10 per child.
