In response to the rise in gun violence among teens deaths Mary-Pat Hector felt compelled not to just shake her head at the problem. So she gathered her friends and TOOK ACTION. Because she is determined to stop gun-violence in her community, one campaign at a time, in February, she has been tenacious in her planning and pulling together a coalition of community leaders to discuss not just the problem but solutions to curb gang and youth-on-youth violence in her community. Mary-Pat along with her friends is committed to making a difference in their community and influencing other youth around the country. The Think Twice Campaign’s purpose is simple: (1) to teach youth legal, safe, and positive ways to deal with anger and conflict, and (2) to help youth realize that violent entertainment influences their attitudes about the acceptability of violence.
