Dr. Joy Degruy: Slavery, the Civil War, and African American Mental Health In response to enthusiastic audience response following her late-August lecture, Dr. Joy Degruy returns to continue the conversation based on her successful book, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome. Dr. joy Degruy argues that while African Americans survived the physical violence of chattel slavery and post-slavery racial discrimination, they did not survive, as well, the emotional and psychological effects of that trauma. Dr. Degruy believes that healing these mental and emotional scars is critical to the Black community's future survival. She will talk about how we, as a race, move forward. Event Date; November 14, 2012 Event Fee: FREE for Adults and Children
