Located just seven miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Riverdale, Georgia, community leaders and businesses are organizing themselves for the opening of an innovative project to supply BHN (Basic Human Need)products to the community all out of one location. The BHN store is housed in a 20,000 square foot facility that will stock basic human needs – clothing, food, building supplies, paper products and medical/hygiene items. The BHN store will be managed by staff and students from Hearts to Nourish Hope.Hearts is an established non-profit organization with seventeen years of experience providing support for young people and families in need. One-hundred percent of store profits are returned to Hearts. Among notable supporters of BHN who are paving the way for the project are Oldcastle, as Georgia Masonry Supply located in Lawrenceville, Georgia and Pine Hall Brick, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. These manufactures are among the project base of suppliers for BHN.
The public will be able to purchase basic human need items for cash, or pay for the items in a half-cash/half-barter arrangement, creating an environment where it is possible to trade work for needed items. Local barter industry members, nearly 5,000 members strong will also be able to buy products from BHN on full trade through membership in local barter exchange companies. The innovation behind the BHN project is that it is powered by nearly all of the five thousand local businesses that hold membership in the regionally based barter industry in and near Atlanta, Georgia.
Scheduled to open its doors on January 15, 2013, BHN will host a celebration and fundraiser for the project on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. at the Hearts building, home for the BHN store. The celebration and fundraiser will include live music, projection art on theme from around the world and special VIP guests, including managers and owners of local barter exchange companies.
