The Mythic Movies film series continues with "Excalibur," a 1981 epic fantasy film directed by John Boorman. The film seeks to retell the full legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table in about two hours, drawing inspiration from the 15th century Arthurian romance, Le Morte D'Arthur, by Thomas Malory, which cemented King Arthur as a tragic hero of British legend. Malory's work also has inspired T.H. White's "Once and Future King," the musical "Camelot" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." The all-star cast of "Excalibur" includes Nigel Terry as Arthur, Nicol Williamson as Merlin, Helen Mirren as Morgana, Nicholas Clay as Lancelot, a young Liam Neeson as Gawain, Gabriel Byrne as Uther Pendragon, Corin Redgrave as Cornwall, and Patrick Stewart as Leondegrance. The screening will also include a short introduction and a post-film discussion of the film's mythic elements.
