The afternoon's performance features internationally renowned Brazilian pianist Paulo Ricardo Gazzaneo interpreting the popular Beethoven "Emperor" Piano Concerto No. 5; local African-American soprano Leah McRath in arias by Puccini, Verdi and Cilea; Chinese violinist Luke Hsu performing the Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto No. 5; and Puerto Rican guest conductor Helen Gonzalez conducting Chabrier's flamboyant "Espana". Maestro Thomas Ludwig, former music director of the New York City Symphony and resident conductor for American Ballet Theatre with Mikhail Baryshnikov at the Metropolitan Opera House will lead the 85 piece orchestra in a program that includes Verdi's Triumphal March from Aida and the Atlanta premiere of Ludwig's Symphony No. 2. (The beautiful adagietto for harp and strings from this symphony was written for an infant beggar girl of the Zona Rosa in Mexico City.)
